Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Constant stressing

Is there anybody who is not constantly stressing about their job at Follett? About possible closings and layoffs? If there is, will you share your secret with the rest of us? Even on my days off I can't relax properly because I'm worried about having a job the next day. It's exhausting.

For what it's worth, try to find a professional resume writer and get your resume critiqued. Nowadays, you have to take the job posting that you're interested in and tweak your resume off the keywords of the posting. There's all kinds of algorithms that companies use when scanning resumes to pick out keywords. Companies don't care what you do or what your responsibilities were, companies care about what you did to help the bottom line, increase revenue, implement and bring new ideas to the table, etc. Going to closet and get the thesaurus out, and start using words like implemented, orchestrated, conducted, achieved, managed, facilitated, etc.

It’s hard but I stress more for my staff than myself. The pittance of hours, the ease with which they were furloughed before, the knowledge that their little paycheck is actually feeding them or not each week, is much worse than worrying about my own job. I feel like I have a 50/50 chance of keeping my job into this spring but they have so much less.
I see the sales and this business is not sustainable if things don’t change fast

Honestly, I don't stress about losing my job. If I do, so be it. It's my staff I worry about. They have kids, family members they care for, etc. They need their jobs. And what does Follett "allow" them to work? 20 hours. A MONTH. During the entire rush period. And as soon as rush is over, down to zero. But then we expect them to return to help us for graduation? I hope they find something better soon, because the way they're treated as just disposable labor is terrible.

I am one such person. This is honestly the only time I wish it was just me. I mean, it's resulted in psychological damage. Sure, lame, but as a long term employee I've spent the last two years trying to get out, resume tweaked repeatedly, taken advantage of every lead I've been given, and I'm still here. I'm so glad it's been easy for others, and that people have moved on, that is good. For those who treat it like needs to be treated, i.e., just a job, you've got the right attitude. Doesn't mean you don't care, but you don't carry it home with you. For those who do, we're not as worthless as the VPs on up make us feel (at this point it's not about divisions, just the C-suite and the rest of us) just power on. But do so being ready to jump the moment you have a chance at something better.

I’m sure there a many of us in that boat.
We keep hearing sometime at the end of February or sometime in March.
It’s a daily stress factor. And others will jump on and say find another job, get out !
If it were only that simple
Not a lot of places hiring around me. Definitely looking and tweaking the resume
I just wish they could be honest
We are adults here. Tell us straight out that there are layoffs coming in March or whatever the case maybe. Most will stick it out because we have no choice. But at least we know when the ax will fall.
