Anthem Non IT workers eligible for federal benefits after company shifts work overseas

More than 250 workers at Indianapolis-based health care insurer Anthem Inc. have lost their jobs after work was shifted overseas and are eligible for federal benefits, an investigator has determined.

Workers in Anthem’s benefits administration and commercial claims and adjustments divisions won their claims after an investigator ruled Jan. 23 in their favor. A spokesman for the Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Monday that 258 jobs were affected.

But the investigator ruled against a group of Anthem’s information technology workers who lost their jobs, saying they didn’t meet the federal requirements. The size of that group was not mentioned.

Yes, they can legally create new subsidiaries overseas and hire people who live in that Country. Then they change the job description, hire the offshore teams and dump the onshore personnel. Yes, this a common business model and not only is it legal, it's very profitable. It's called greed.

Yes, Medicare and Medicaid jobs can be sent offshore in some states. Nothing happens without each state’s (read: government) pre-approval.

But a for-profit corporation like Anthem, on the other hand? Anything goes. Anthem leadership can't sell out our country and its workers fast enough!

No, a government run healthcare system could not legally send jobs overseas where work would be done by foreigners who have no allegiance to the United States or its citizens and who seek only to siphon off our wealth and sensitive information while laughing their behinds off at what s—ers we are for allowing them to do so.
