Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

My thought

It's natural that in times of change, people are more reluctant to speak up. Having said that personally there is no way I would speak up at the moment. A lot of that depends on your line manager of course, but I wouldn't trust anything to go through the formal process of I'm afraid. There does seem to have been a lot of upheaval and I too have heard some dismay at some of the changes Time will tell of course, we can only hope that things will improve :-)

@1rcn, I hope you don’t mind me copying your post to a new thread. I’m also seeing this sort of thing every day.

I am seeing more and more that people with experience are being exited and replaced by far less experienced people. It is glaringly obvious that experience doesn’t count for much and this is more about who is liked. So many promotions my god.

I have just done my job change to someone who has literally no idea about the role or any technical experience of the role. This person had no understanding of even the simple control framework let alone the depth of knowledge needed on the risks. These are important risk based roles that can land us in hot water without appropriate controls in place.

I cannot speak for how it is throughout the entire organisation, but I can speak for what I see in my part of the organization. These people are not being set up for success.

So hearing through the grapevine that the same people who organized the “girls of SWN” calendar last year are also organizing a wet t shirt contest for anyone interested in signing up. This will raise funds to help offset any potential layoffs at the company. I think I may sign up. My hubby will be proud and will be glad I won’t be laid off.

We may not be having layoffs today, but my Manager has asked all of us in our group to draft up a list of all of our 2020 accomplishments that directly positively favored the bottom line. Minimum of 4 entries. Due by close of business today. This just added a bunch of stress to my life! I think this is laying the groundwork for layoffs.

Land has and always will be the most valuable assets a company like ours will have. Ever. Period. We are immune to layoffs. Final.

Why was land given a pass on layoffs today? Are we squiring more acreage. New Ventures ramping up again. I hope so. I love this company and believe in it!!

Layoffs are happening around our industry at a rampant pace. 11,000 workers terminated with the stroke of a pen on Day 1. Our management is planning to use this excuse to layoff people around here too. “Just because”. The new regime. Better learn how to assemble solar panels and wipe your a$$ with leaves, folks. Be worried. Very worried. Layoffs are happening!

I think this is a great question. Historically, I have been through a round of layoffs. Then a year or so later, they conducted another round because they were under pressure to further reduce costs because the first round was insufficient. Because SWN is going into a brand new area, with MP they don't know what to expect. The nearest they were to these projects came from their work in NE PA. The share price did see saw today as it's now trading at slightly near $4.00

My thought: the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It’s worked for me many times in my career, as well as pinning some nice earrings behind my ears. Just sayin. I’ve been promoted 4 times here.
