Is your manager notified when you submit an internal application?

No notification. Back in the day yes but the past 5 years no! Been a manager there for 24 years.
@2tgp+19Y2RHZM: if someone you managed applied for a job, did that person already go through the interviews and got the offer? Applying after they got the offer would be just formality.
I definitely got notifications in 2020 and have got them in 2021.
Clarifying my earlier statement:
As of 2020, I don’t think managers get responses unless they pretended to be surprised when I said I had a job offer.
I don’t want people to stay in a job that they don’t like for fear of their manager knowing - it’s not good for the company to keep people doing stuff they don’t like as they could generate more value in a different organization.
I’m a manager. I got notifications everytime someone applied for an internal job.
Nope - unless they played ignorant
Not sure about notification. But manager can delay the transfer and make the transition harder. I saw someone was kept up to 8 months.
No the manager is not notified. I have applied numerous time through circuit and gotten offers without the knowledge of managers . However, I would suggest that when you apply send an email to the new hiring manager to open a line of communication. Good luck!!
@1zes+19Y2RHZM: From what you said, the timing of transfer is important, depending on a person's situation in relation to the group.
Do NOT ever apply internally at any company behind your manager's back, believe me on this. A few years ago I applied for an internal transfer without telling my manager because I didn't respect him and he was a tool in the department. The policy stated that my manager wouldn't get notified until I receive an offer from the department I am transferring to. I even talked to the HR lady and she said the same thing. Turned out that was all lies and my manager knew about my internal applications. He then lowered my annual performance rating to "Need to Improve" and blocked me from any internal transfers or even joining the company again. These policies you read are total BS, they are there just to fulfill the company's policies.
In the past it was set up to notify your manager, but not anymore.
Yes. You should tell your manager you are looking to transfer internally. And ask for consent and recommendations.
Dilemma. The person applying for a job might not get the job, why alerting the current manager when it is early stage? What will the person's current manager do, blocking the process from starting if the mgr does not want to lose a key person, or knowing the person's intention, no further opportunities or awards to retain the person?
No, he answer is not correct. If you apply for an internal job in Workday, your manager is notified. It even says this on the submission page in Workday.
Why did @gwy+19Y2RHZM get down votes? Is the answer correct?
But the hiring manager will reach out to your manager for feedback.
No!
