Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Moving to a privately owned dealership model?

I think what many are clearly missing, Xerox is moving away from a direct sales force to a privately owned dealership model. The same as the competitors. Reduces overhead significantly on Xerox while passing the buck to dealers. If you step back and look at everything that has transpired over the past few years, this is the only logical explanation. Be assured, Xerox will always make copiers and printers, but if you are a direct employee involved in a sales or support office on the direct channel or supporting that channel, your days are numbered...

Stright to the point!

Even the few production boxes that Xerox still makes are in their twilight years. Last I knew the only Xerox boxes that Xerox sold were really old technology. Every so often they would add a couple of bells & whistles but there was no real innovation on the boxes. The “innovation” was in the digital front ends & software options to “integrate” the printers into your business. Of course most of the DFE development has been sold off. Much of the systems engineering has gone to HCL. Most of the hardware engineers are gone. So, not sure how they’re going to continue on as an OEM is beyond me.

Any truly new hardware launches that came out of Xerox in the last few years were the result of acquisitions & the company hasn’t been able to make a go of any of them.

They cannot.

  1. Xerox doesn't make printers except a few production boxes. 98% of MIF are FX boxes. FX can in a month sell freely in Xerox markets. OEMs can sell to dealers because they actually build there own boxes to sell. Xerox does not.
  1. 90 percent of revenue is from maintenance leases. That would go to the dealers. Dealers can in a month or so, go to FX for OEM parts at a steep discount vs middle man Xerox.

Most positions and MIF were given to XBS.
