Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Make sure to do due diligence

If you're looking now, good luck and do your research. Read reviews on sites like Indeed and even Yelp, you don't want to have to work for scum like this again!

Exactly this, but I wanted to add to make sure to check out your potential future employer here as well. This is probably the place where you'll find the most honest opinions of a company. Get as much info as you can before you make the move. That's the best way to prevent future regret.

Look for something out of retail. All major retail companies are trying to survive the retail disruption from online shopping. Even the major retailers like Target and Walmart are reducing payroll at store level, doing more with less to support the cost of higher hourly wages and ship from store. At store level team members are bearing the brunt of the disruption with less full time associates, working less hours. It’s not the same Retail that for years was a great job for many and a great career for Managers.

It's easy to get comfortable where you are, even with the abuse and stupid management. Then you end up staying for years and one day Barnes & Noble screws you.

Good advice. The grass isn't always greener.

No job is beneath you.
Remember when people looked down their nose at fast food workers? Now some are making up to $15 per hour and are considered essential!
