Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why do so many folks hate Intel?

It's like it personally offended you for something. It isn't a person, it's a company. It pays you to do a job and gives you certain benefits as a bonus. Is it as good of a place to work as it was a decade ago? No, it's not. But it's certainly not as bad as some of you are making it seem.

There are too many people holding the reins who would rather tank the company than threaten their livelihoods. I vote we limit the number of PEs, SrPEs, and Fellows. Once we hit the limit, you can get only get promoted if one gets demoted, leaves, or dies.

@3zrn Totally agree. Same happened at Qualcomm in 2015 as well. They started to give low ratings to good hard working engineers but not d!rty politics savvy so that they can PIP them out. That way the layoff percentage would appear less. In 2015 Qualcomm announced 15% layoff, however, it was at least 25% considering all the folks that were put on the PIP. It is very unethical way to treat your employees. No wonder everyone I meet who left Qualcomm say sh!t about that company and would never go again to work for them.

A big reason for the anger is the stealth lay-off of 2015 and the ACT lay-off of 2016. Rather than admit that the reductions in force were due to the company struggling from poor leadership, executive management blamed their employees. They labeled those involuntarily separated (ISPers) as performance problems and banned them from ever returning, and they threatened those offered voluntary separation (VSPers) that they likely would be next. These individuals were fine and dandy in 2014 but were suddenly “performance problems” in 2015/16, something that isn’t credible. It’s a horrible way to treat employees, and no one in executive management has ever explained why it was done (let alone apologize).

I think part of it is the high density of type A a–holes. No it alls with super egos to match. I would never ever ever befriend anyone like many of my coworkers in the outside world.

Agreed.
Perspectives are driven mainly by manager and group dynamics.

Very much depends on your group. Even someone in a cube next to you could have a totally different experience depending on their group dynamics.

Dell & Intel did bribed together to leave AMD with little cash.

I don't hate Intel, simply because I don't work there, never have. I find this forum entertaining though.

Intel was late on 14nm by two years

Late on 10nm by 7 years.

Late on 7nm by 5 years.

Intel has not had a new uarch since 2016.

Why do you think that is? What happened during 2013-2020 that led to this?

That is why Intel employees hate the company and are fleeing to anyone who offers them a job.

Firstly I think people don’t use their or other people’s experiences elsewhere to assess how they feel on a daily basis. Secondly the place is filled with brown nosing bozos who are too sure of themselves. Finally all things put together, the company seems to have lost the good things it had going for it in the past while still being stuck in the old way of doing things despite rest of the world having transitioned to better ways
