Is Macy's future in fashion targeting the middle class consumer? Or are we becoming a dump for stuff that won't sell. We are so short staffed and yet we are told to spend countless hours "sizing" Last Act. Really? Under the current circumstances, why is the discount junk that wouldn't move at 40% off, now the priority? If Macy's carried better merchandise to begin with, perhaps so much of their "fashion forward" garb wouldn't wind up languishing in the bargain basement racks of the store. It's like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Who really thinks this is the best use of limited overworked personnel? Anyone? If the target audience is the unemployed, then just say so and stop trying to be something we will never be again at this rate. As I've said before, if you try to be "something for everyone" you wind up being "nothing for anyone."

I work in a suburb store in the Chicago area and our Last Act area is full of our private brands since we stopped carrying most of the brands that people come to Macy's for. Our regional was in and said to focus on Last Act and not worry about low inventory levels or all of the brands that were edited from our assortment.
Our store is so empty that we are being told to fixture everything link a checkerboard to make it look fuller. Customers are all complaining and it shows on our surveys, nobody wants brands like Style &CO, INC, and Charter Club when you don't have Hilfiger, Polo, or even Levi's. Doesn't look good going forward.
Its only sized in my store when it gets the markdown to take it to Last Act. Then after that we just keep it picked up and do attempt to do put backs in the right place.
