Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Things to do before quitting

The time has come that after searching for a job for almost 8 months I will put in my notice next week.
What are some things that I need to do before I leave? Anything you wish you did before you left?
Thanks a lot!

I downloaded all my EADS and sent them to my personal email a couple weeks before I left - wasn't an issue.

You know it's super easy to recover those files from SharePoint, right? Literally a standard automated form on the IT site to restore a backup from the server.

I deleted all my training decks in the shared drive/SharePoint. Boss is clueless about the subject matter. Good luck preparing them from scratch.

Encrypt all your files on your local machine and put password protect on critical excel files , spoke to an IT person and they are so inept that they cannot open them once encrypted or password locked

Eads/padp docs are yours to do with as you want. I was fake pip’d last year, sent all those “private” docs to my personal email, did not send anything marked proprietary.

Thank you all for your responses! At times this group has been like a support system in knowing that I’m not alone and crazy. Best wishes to all

Trivial, but EADS is a Private document. Not Proprietary.
It's under a stricter protocol, but the classifications are not related.
Private documents such as EADS are yours, but I'd suggest printing rather than external sending.

I'm about to depart as well, and the list below is pretty good.
I've got some additional personal digs planned, that will only be discovered after I'm gone.
Not company sabotage - don't get me wrong.
Just brief deep thoughts left under mouse pads. Arial font lower case.

Careful on number 5. I asked my dimwit general manager if I can download my EADS forms to help me craft my resume (I was part of involuntary cuts), and that person told me no, they are company property. Said if I sent them to myself that would be considered IT theft. So be smart, print them out, don’t email them to yourself.

@egm+19V5yS1C I would just be wary of inadvertently putting legitimately proprietary info out there. You never know what account breach is just around the corner and what liability you’ve exposed yourself to by sending stuff electronically. Aside from that, I’m sure IT has monitors to flag suspicious behavior. Don’t make yourself a target.

Go old school— print out copies, or if you’re paranoid, hand copy them. It all depends on your risk tolerance.

@xdw+19V5yS1C - good advice.
Does anyone one know if there is a policy against forwarding EADS and other performance documents to your personal email account? I know there is a strict policy not to forward anything to personal email account. Wouldn’t want to violate that and jeopardize severance (in case one is getting laid off).

Great question that was answered well by @xdw+19V5yS1C As a veteran of this industry (35 years) working for a number of oil companies (Amoco, Arco, BP and EM) letme add another item: Get the names of those you have worked with, even those that you thought were jerks or slack offs. Years from now, long after you have forgotten most of these names, it is interesting to look through your list, to look them up on social media and to catch a glimpse Take care. Good luck. Safe travels.

Congrats! I would've let them fire me. That way I would get 3 months pay

  1. Convert any personal accounts (frequent flier, EYFPC, Voya, etc.) connected to your work email to a personal email account.
  1. Confirm in EDA than your address and contact info are correct.
  1. Make sure you have an account set up with Benefits admin. (Can do afterwards, but it’s more of a pain)
  1. Download a copy of your latest compensation and benefits statement (not useful in your case since you have something lined up, but others may want to do this)
  1. Download a few years of your past EADS/KO feedback.
  1. Bring your personal items home ahead of the notice.
  1. Save any useful external business contacts (cards, emails, numbers).
  1. Craft a farewell email to coworkers you actually enjoyed.
  1. (Optional) Go 6 mph over the campus speed limit on you way out, you risk taker. You’re finally free.
