Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Can they offer better prices?

This question is not about layoffs, but I am still very interested in getting the answer. I would like someone who knows better how the business works tell me if BN can lower their prices, since it is certain that one of the reasons why many choose to buy on Amazon is simply better prices. Any thoughts?

My store recently got rid of all their textbooks, making no money on them and worse lose money when we have to return them. Don’t know how we survive.

People will seek out a better price. That’s why Amazon is doing so well. Barnes, for years, sold the idea that shopping there was an “experience”. Disgusting restrooms & cafes, after saving a buck firing the cleaners definitely soured the experience. That and the backlash of firing over 3000 a couple years ago exposed that the once reputable company had no regard for anyone who worked for them.

They could after they get rid of all their useless booksellers who obviously aren't worth their pay and the leases that are required to give them a place to work. The only part worth saving at the old BN is the school textbooks, and they can go online for everything else.

They replaced full timers with minimum wage part timers.
They CAN afford it !
They lost business to Amazon with their non competitive higher prices . People don’t see Barnes as the “Brand” it once was. Customers are more price savvy now.

They can't afford to sell books cheaper. They have to pay the rent and employees, which is why it won't stay open for much longer.
