Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Has anyone received their severance payment?

I have read a few post here that weeks have went by and they have not received their severance payment. Has anyone received theirs?

Be very careful when you sign that severance letter agreeing to certain things, if they aren’t paying people and you’ve signed that agreement you can’t even speak on it or get legal assistance. So find out if they’re really paying people because it don’t seem like it.

FYI: if you were offered 5 weeks of severance you can not collect unemployment for 5 weeks, you can’t collect both at the same time.

⬇️ Now this is valuable information. A clear example from your home state. Not all states are the same.

You cannot “double dip” in NY. NYDOL UI actually asks for a copy of your signed severance agreement, mostly to see exactly how much you’re getting in your lump sum payment and for how many weeks. If your calculated weekly severance is more than the maximum weekly benefit of only $504 (regardless of $300 Covid supplement), you cannot receive a benefit check that week. According to DOL policies, it can be construed that you should hold off filing a claim until more than 30 days past your last work date, so don’t be in a hurry to return your signed agreement. It says you are eligible for UI benefits if you receive your severance AFTER that 30 day period, not before. The difference between getting it on 4/2 or 4/19 is significant when your term date was 3/12. HR cannot say which of these paydays you will get your payment. I’d already submitted mine right away and was told by HR that they couldn’t put “a hold” on the process by a week. You can’t get through on the UI line to double check on this or ask specific questions, due to extremely high call volume, so they just dump your call. Either way, don’t be in such a hurry as I was.

It varies by state, in my state, severance DOES NOT effect the ability to obtain Unemployment Benefits. The representative that I spoke with stated that in this state, severance pay is NOT even a factor considered when a person applies for unemployment and I specifically told her about the RIF and my severance. She said that I qualified due to the RIF and I should be getting my unemployment starting next week.

Don't know how many times it needs to be said, but since people are disemminating false information to people who are already worried and afraid then it needs to repeated. IT DEPENDS ON YOUR STATE! After processing, I received my UI benefits, almost immediately. My severance WAS NOT a factor. I received 20 weeks of severance. I did not get my UI at 21 weeks. So check your state laws. Don't rely solely on info you get from this website.

Actually depends on the state. If you have not been paid by a company for 30 days you are eligible for unemployment. If you get the severance within the 30 days, you don't get unemployment. This is for NYC , so don't send the letter back right away. You have 45 days. Take the time.

It is obvious by the responses, that unemployment payments vary by state. So again, unverified statements should not be made that create more uncertainty and fear. I've gone through RECENTLY with Centene. I live in California. I received my unemployment. My severance money didn't affect my UI at all!!

When you apply for UC it asks if you're receiving a severance and tells you how much you're allowed in order for it not to interfere with your unemployment. That is in Pa.

In Missouri, your unemployment is not affected by severance or Social Security. All States don't have the same laws.

The law signed by Gov. Rick Scott on June 29, receiving severance pay from your former employer will not reduce your unemployment benefits – if you were laid off before Aug. 1. But under the new law, those Florida residents who lose their job on or after Aug. 1 would not be entitled to unemployment compensation for any week that the severance pay is equal or greater than the weekly benefit.
At a maximum of $275 a week, unemployment compensation is often lower than severance pay, which is based on the former worker's salary. Until this law, Florida residents who lose their jobs were able to "double dip," collecting unemployment compensation pay at the same time they are collecting severance. However, there is no reduction in total benefits or available credits on the unemployment benefits claim, according to Florida's Agency for Workforce Innovation. That means an unemployed resident can collect state and potentially federal unemployment benefits after his or her severance is depleted, if still unemployed.
When a week of severance pay is less than the weekly benefit amount, the resident is eligible for a benefit payment reduced by the severance pay. For example, if a worker is receiving severance pay for a week equal to $200 but the weekly benefit amount of the claim is $275, the individual can be paid $75 in unemployment benefits.

19RwVU8F Know it all it is true you can not collect unemployment and severance at the same time, if you got 8 weeks, unemployment will NOT pay until after that!

Dude, what are you talking about?! Don't add more uncertainty and fear to an already fragile situation. I was laid off in January along with 90% of the Marketing Department. We got our severance checks. It took about 3-4 weeks. They do wait the 7 days in case you change your mind. And what you're saying about unemployment benefits is untrue.

For those of us with a separation date of 3/12/21, we couldn't even sign the release until yesterday on 3/13/21 (day after separation). Then there is a seven day period when you can revoke signing the release so no payments until after that time goes by. If you send the signed release back by email it would get there more quickly than by standard mail. I don't know anyone with a final separation date prior to 3/12/21 (last day I could logon was 2/10/21 but that was not the separation date).

I was part of the layoffs last June/July and our severance packages were only paid out on the next regular scheduled payday after they received our signed paperwork.
