BJ’s treats their employees horribly! Overworked and underpaid! It’s all about the executives getting their bonuses and going on their corporate retreats aka golfing!! A lot of regional managers accepting s-xual favors for promotions, that’s why you see a lot of female club managers. Employees there should definitely unionize, corporate tries to shut down all talk of unionizing bc they know they’d have to pay fairly and have better working conditions. They use employees personal cell phones as ways of directing them throughout the day, then BJ’s should be supplying them with a work cell phone or footing at least half the employees cell phone bill. I recommend BJ’s employees contact their local AFL-CIO and unionize!! Make upper management treat you fairly, hit them in their pocketbook like they do to you!!

Worked at BJs for 5 years positions listed

  1. Night crew stocker/ Forklift. ( 28 years exp before BJs)
  2. Day time receiver (27 years exp before BJs)
  3. Asset protection MANAGER/ Key Holder ( 35 years exp Manager before BJs)

I was in the Military 4 years ,I have also worked for large Military Contractors on very large operations in the states and overseas as a Manager and Worker , I ran a distribution center for a private Hospital supply company to include all HR duties so I am definitely qualified to tell you if there is a problem at Bjs in general and yes i say and it is what I call a total system breakdown no Hope anymore. At one time I could see our store being the best for the company and the consumer but no one and I mean no one in upper management cared plain and simple.

Stop bi-----g, go through the motions till you find something else.. until then carry on you complacent payroll sucking boomers ...

You're 100% right, it is a known problem and it was created by BJ's clueless corporate leadership, most of whom have no idea how one of their clubs actually works. In their minds, under the new template they created, the night crew should come in to a fully zoned club, thanks to the fabulous new PIC position they created that they can't hire anybody for because it is the most thankless job on earth. They have no idea how much a night crew deals with each evening. 800 loads, freezer trucks, over the road, normal replenishment and fill, resets etc. And then they have the nerve to think 3 or 4 people can handle all that!!! I'd like to see one corporate executive have to work a zone in one of the clubs for 1 week only and then see what they think of their great new plan! They have turned into a company of liars and yes men who can't be truthful about anything, be it with the team members, members or their own selves. And they continue to lie the the general public and their stockholders. They have yet to publicly reveal that they let thousands of their best performers go in a move that smacked of nothing but classless greed! This past weekend they ran hiring events in just about every state they are in, advertising that they were looking for 400 to 500 workers in each instance. So that tells you about how many people lost their jobs to their never ending pursuit of that last dollar for themselves. Why isn't the media all over them?? They just keep giving them more and more fodder to hang themselves out to dry. Insider trading, mysterious death of their CEO, public non-disclosure about their recent actions, ripping people off from their rightful severances. You think they want it to hit the media that they gave people with 30 years of service only 8 weeks of severance and in some cases gave them nothing after reporting a record year!!! One week for each year of service!!! THAT'S WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO EACH TEAM MEMBER THAT WAS SEVERED AND BJ'S KNOWS IT!!!! They are run by disgusting human beings now, ones that will lawyer-up if they ever get released in the same fashion as they let so many go. The only solace we can all take right now is that the clubs are all now living hells on earth to work at and it's only going to get worse. They haven't even reached the busy time of year yet. I pity those left behind. BJ's made a critical error this time, one from which they will never recover. The members are figuring it out, the team members don't trust them at all, and the media and lawsuits are bound to come sooner or later. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch!!!

They are continuing to treat the overnight where I work like garbage. Refusing to adequately staff the overnight has led to the store not completely finished. It is a drag on those who have to work. The support isn't there and what makes it worse it seems that its a known problem

Do they have anybody left to promote? They let go of everybody who knew anything about anything. Everybody left were just warm bodies who were choice #3, 4 or 5 who only got promoted simply because someone has to run the business and are merely placeholders who shouldn't get too comfortable, because BJs is going to sc--w them next once they think they have better options. All the knowledge has already left the building. And I don't mean that as a slap at who's left. Most of them had a choice of no choice and had to do what was best for them. But I wouldn't take being "promoted" as too much of a compliment right now, as it merely means you are breathing and can say the word yes! However, BJs was stupid enough to do what they just did, so the GM rumors make sense. I don't know how those left in the clubs are surviving. My old club has yet to hire one single person to fill any of the new roles, including not a single PIC. People are working morning, noon and night. They can't even take days off. Wait until someone wants a vacation! I feel so bad for them. Those that operate our company now are completely clueless, arrogant mo--ns!!! They deserve every bad thing that comes their way. I hope they get pounded by the press, the SEC and by the lawsuits that are sure to come their way as the result of the millions they owe people from the humiliating severances they handed out and the jobs they cost good people!!!!

Anyone hear about GM's being next for packages? They will be rotating GM's, laying some off via early retirement, and promoting some of the assistants to take the vacated GM slots??? That is what I am hearing.

Just in case some people are not aware today BJs has posted on its connect page that home office will be moving to a new modern home office with up to date technology all new furniture fitness center and an outdoor basketball and volleyball court. And not to be outshined but a full service cafeteria. So maybe you guys that were forced to leave will see what your old paycheck is going to.

Im a part time employee and I am on a list with abut 50 other people. Management says they dony know what this list is about or its just to talk about changes. Do you think a lay off is coming for me? Additionally, I only see myself scheduled for this week and next.

In my years of working I’ve never worked in such a toxic environment. This company is so unprofessional and communication is terrible. Decisions like laying off managers is a big decision especially in a pandemic! It effects everyone, we are all a team!! I don’t see anything beneficial that comes from this!

For all the team members taking the severance package if you have not signed page seven and emailed it in by March 25 you are screwed once more by the company. Something the GM failed to explain when delivering the bad news. Are was it intentional knowing not everyone will read the entire package? They really don’t care about all the families being affected by this.

Bjs Headquarters, you should be ashamed of how you treated your LOYAL employees. These people stand with you through the pandemic and made your company millions plus dollars and you demote, fire or transition them, without a care in the world. Be glad you got away from those sorry GMs, managers and all the Negativity. For all you high Executives , do you have a conscience, probably not because you are getting Big salaries and bonuses, while people are already struggling in this economy. Only GOD had the last laugh! This company is Awful!! To the former Bjs employees, take this as a blessing God had plans for you, Good luck on your next endeavor and please don’t ever return in Bjs and give them any of your money!!

I worked for BJs for 2 months as a meat cutter with meat management exp out west but due to relocation, I came to BJs, not knowing any better.

Well, by my 2nd week, I saw more than I ever wanted to see. Besides complete disregard for their employees at all levels, the violations in the meat dept made me ill, just thinking about the daily practices. I was buying a house so could not quit and it kept getting worse

I will never forget when the corporate management came through and 5 of them, plus 2 of our store managers walked into our meat dept. Not one of them acknowledged me standing approx 4 ft away as they passed by looking all around. I am 57 yrs old, and lots of yrs. Never have a been ignored and put in such an awkward situation with these little 35-45 corporate punks, who have no idea how to manage their company or appreciate the people who work for them.

I was done. 2 weeks notice and I was out

The store manager’s comments to me: “We did a lot to get you in here at a very good rate of pay.”

My comment: “Yes, you did and I appreciate it. However, you did a lot more to push me out in such a short period.”

Worst company I ever worked for and highest turnover I ever seen in this industry. I said that this company was doomed, at least in the Florida area

I’ve been working for Bjs for 10 years. My opinion for calling out on Easter Sunday probably won’t be popular. I feel it’s unfair to the managers and the team members that I’ve been working with all this time. As I know one or two managers will be working, it’s not their fault this is happened. Bj’s will still make money, the bigwigs could care less if we call out as a matter fact I’ll make more money if we do. The best thing we can do is put this complaint feed on their Facebook page! I will mitt that I’m afraid of losing my job if I do that. And I know that my comments not gonna be popular with this group. But we can all get our family members neighbors and friends to do it for us! It is already started. A previous team member has already posted on the Bj’s Facebook page. You just have to like the page click posts and just pick any one of their commercial ads and put your information on there. They are policing the website. As they answer peoples questions.

BJ’s Headquarters need to actually step foot in a store to see the normal day to day especially on a weekend. When I was the HR Manager and there was only 6 Managers to run and close the store, it was truly unbearable. We were severely understaffed and the District wasn’t helpful whatsoever. They came in on their high horse, expecting us to be able to do this, be in our department, run the store, and be that understaffed while making our goals. Not sure why there was even an HR Business Partner because you had a better chance of contacting God himself than one of them responding. In addition to that, there was absolutely no work life balance and constantly making goals but it not being enough. This was the most toxic work environment I’ve ever had. I’m glad I left after 5 months and found a better opportunity but this layoff truly makes me sad. To all those affected, a better opportunity is coming and I’m sure of it.

I have never seen the shelves so low at a Bj's store. There is no longer enough help to keep the shelves stocked or recovered. Produce is so low that the tables are empty during the daytime. They have removed all the drops so the store looks empty to start with! I am no aware of one department that has enough help to keep going even if they wanted to. I have seen 3 people come in and call it a night shift! When these stores start losing customers due to product no being out maybe they will wake up?? They are bringing in people in the top that have no idea of how to run a big box retail store. They have no clue that by not hiring help they are hurting the business, not saving money

Thinking about the situation. I almost can't fathom an executive management team to be this stupid. Layoff people during a pandemic, a week before a major holiday, without expecting ramifications, lost sales and angry members. Not to mention a work force in turmoil.

Could it possibly be a pending sale of the company? With the buyer dictating the terms needed to follow through with a buyout?

Having the restructuring done a head of a pending buyout. This way the buyers are not perceived as the bad guy. Just a thought. Or is this just Lee Delaneys team being plain stupid?

As of this week my club will be losing anywhere between 20-30 employees from managers all the way down to some part timers. Whole departments gone. This business practice in the name of profits margins is gross but unfortunately there isn’t much that the common man can do at this moment. I hope the best for those who reluctantly stay.

For those who stayed the coming months will be interesting. My club has 2 key holders only. A gm and a assistant. No night manager. Nobody to let the night crew into the building since the zone specialist no longer will have keys or alarm codes. No way they will help out and take them back. No PICs. No produce crew. No fresh manager. We have to stop taking cake orders. The bakery dpt is in shambles not one person who can decorate cakes or even bake on some days. As well as the deli with minimal staffing.

When the members start going nuts because of store conditions most of us left have decided to simply tell them the truth. The company laid everyone off. This is what a BJ's membership buys you.

Imagine thinking doing all of these changes during a pandemic is a good thing. I was told I wasn’t going to be effected as much as others. But now there will only be ONE manager to oversee all three perishable departments (deli, bakery and produce). What about inventory’s? Is that ONE Fresh Manger gonna do all three each month in that one day? And ordering for each department? What will this new manger do? Walk around like all the other ones and “oversee”? This is beyond frustrating!

We all need to stand together. What they did to us is just disgusting! My position was just eliminated! Now I have to take a pay cut and become a team member... all while they expect ONE “FRESH MANAGER” to oversee all perishable departments.. WHAT A JOKE! Let’s fight back!

After 19 years, I was offered more work for the same pay, terrible hours, in a club that has chronic hiring issues and when I declined I was told - Thanks You are a Great Asset we hate to lose. So for anyone saying they got rid of people who were not doing anything but standing around. That is a joke! Work in an 80% or less staffed club for over 3 straight years. Have GM’s that don’t even know the team members names, Op’s managers that don’t even have a clue about the audit, I could go on and on. I wish all the people that had to take the lower positions to take care of all your family’s the best of luck. Remember they have no loyalty to you, so keep that in mind and get out as soon as you can.

Disgusted by the actions of this company. I've been an hourly employee for 7 years in perishables and when I asked if hourly team members would be seeing any kind of change in rate to cover for missing supervisors/managers I was told my "job would be unaffected" I fail to see how that's true seeing as how my department has been down 2 people for months and about to be down a supervisor. All the perishable departments have never been this understaffed and yet they think nothing is gonna change while they force lesser paid employees to cover the slack of less managers/supervisors

Managers laid off, people forced to take lower positions, and no rate increase when nearly all retailers are starting at 15 an hour in our area. How do they expect to fill the positions in departments? No one wants to work here when 5 other grocery stores on the street pay 15 and we're starting everyone at minimum wage ($12)

The front line manager at my club has worked on the front line for almost 19 years. She started as a part time cashier and worked her way up to management. She was offered an hourly position for less money. Her job was given to a younger team member who was a temporary HR mgr. who has been telling people she’s moving in a few months. It’s incredible how this company just doesn’t care at all. It’s all about the bottom line. So many team members worked so hard this past year trying to be loyal and this is how they treat us? I guess they have to make up for $2 incentive pay they so generously gave us.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I worked for BJs for 5 years and was MSS for the last 2. They way they treat people is awful. The club I work at has changed so much since I first started. Management is never around, you have mgrs dating employees, giving special treatment to certain employees. The list goes on and on. Do they discipline employees, not when they should. An employee went out on disability and the HR dept refused to pay the bill. Trust me I am glad I am gone but feel bad for those who need the job to support their families.
I agree with others, call out Easter weekend and put the GM's to work. Guarantee they wouldn't have a clue!!!!
