Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Who quit today?

Raise your hand if team keeps shrinking and your workload keeps growing.
Raise your hand if your colleagues keep resigning and getting cooler jobs.
Raise your hand if with so many people gone, you think about how awful ranking will be.
Raise your hand if unfortunately none of those leaving are those supervisors, managers and executives we all like gone.

@3onz+19PhTF87 I get paid a lot to do very little. What rational person would just leave without something lined up? I tried milking this out as long as possible. Also, I have been waiting for the perfect job rather than just taking a job. But thanks for the nice words! Good luck to you!

“It’s said, people quit bosses not companies. In this case, I think it’s both.
Indeed, there are jobs with better culture, purpose, benefits, and future for those daring to break the golden handcuffs.”

I am very curious when you say we shareholders in your post how you acquired your shares. Are you an annuitant/retiree from the company? Are shares from RSUs or did you purchase in 401k?

The plan is to reduce headcount and increase productivity...This means everyone still working will do MORE WORK. That is the definition of productivity. COST REDUCTION means MORE WORK at lower cost. They just got rid of the SVP job in Projects...That means the President and the VPS will have to do MORE WORK. We shareholders want you to EARN your high salaries and get MORE WORK DONE AT LOWER COST. IF not, Please resign. There is someone in the world ready to take your job an PERFORM at higher quality AND lower cost.

Interesting reading this as someone who enjoys working at EM, a “millennial” manager to boot. Genuinely curious what functions are subject to all of these quitters and if it is driven by bad manager behaviors? Personally, the layoffs (won’t ever call them “reductions” because that’s a cop out) were devastatingly difficult for me, but I can honestly say that the overwhelming majority I saw that were laid off had plenty of opportunities to improve over the years.

I’m no old-timer, but so many of my college friends have dealt with layoffs over the years while EM was the industry stalwart.

Work needs to be prioritized as the teams shrink. We should not expect the remaining people to do everything. Any team additions will most likely occur outside the USA. If in the USA, it will be contractors and not permanent hires.

As for those quitting, what I am reading in between the lines is that XOM is not the place they want to be. I can understand the concern about the future for various reasons. I don’t think XOM will be gone anytime soon but our footprint is changing based on where you work.

Anyone that truly believes XOM is in a death spiral is delusional.

I am seriously considering leaving. I actually feel a bit giddy with the thought of it, the first real feelings I have felt in years. I never want to come back, so burning bridges is key. If I just pop in and drop off my laptop, am I all good? Not giving notice due to mental distress.

Anyone who isn’t looking will wish they had after this years rank cycle.

Wake up and smell the years of stagnant wages and reduced benefits ahead of you.

The title of this post is exactly what I’ve been asking my friends who haven’t yet quit but are still looking for a new job. Our numbers are growing by the day!

Not having to write an EADS again this year is reason enough to leave.

The VP keeps pretending everything is fine and going according to plan, but I’m done pretending to care.

Fingers crossed I’m out of here before I have to write my eads. Maybe even someone will claim my accomplishments as theirs.

Counting eight resignations in the past two weeks and pending eight to ten more that could leave. Personnel are not being replaced and the work doesn't seem to be decreasing. The "death spiral" of XOM has begun... It may enjoy the commodity price peak now, but it's not a long-term solution. This cycle is different from others....
