Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

How much does this company inspire you?

In one of the threads below someone made a good observation that engineering management is full of those who do not like new ideas, but stick to old ones and do not allow space for new things.
I experienced this when I first came here. I was very enthusiastic in making new suggestions. Since I always encountered resistance, I stopped. Riverbed destroys inspiration.

There is nothing inspiring about Riverbed.

@4hod, been where you’re at but there’s hope. When I was ready to leave riverbed, I had hopes to land at one of those FAANG companies. In short, I prepped like crazy and failed the second round. Now the good part is all that prep I did was actually great for non-FAANG’s and I did get a job. I learned the way “we need to speak and behave” can be gleaned from FAANG interviews so if apply with the expectation of failure (or maybe not for you). Leaving riverbed definitely changed my work and life outlook, pressure is the same but it’s nice working for a company that has value to customers and a team of smart and motivated people around me. Based on this board, Riverbed seems toxic now so I’d start re-training how to be a positive person again.

I’ve asked some ex-Riverbeders for their insights. Based on my searches, a lot of the typical companies a Riverbed person would go after are flooded with talent with experience and ages ranging from new grads to triple CCIE seasoned fellows. Looking at these young startups, if you don’t come with a senior title, they won’t respond to you, even for an IC role (at least not me). Forget about FAANG companies, the things their technical, marketing, and sales people know are just so vast and deep where none of my Riverbed experience really applies. I feel like I have to start over, get a bunch of certifications, write some programs, and redo my resume in a way it’s in touch with the modern recruiters. This means spending money of course. The only thing I haven’t done Is straight up ask people for jobs but I may need to resort to this if I can’t find anything.

Zero!!! I have started last year very motivated! I did a mistake, before i started my investigations were not deep enough. I am now so demotivated and disillusioned. Riverbed has no clear strategy, the roadmap is vague. There are no reliable promises regarding product strategy. I am so treading water. We are mostly preoccupied with ourselves instead of with reality and with the customer. I don't feel like working here any more. That's it!

The people who’s been around more than 5 years should share their reasons for staying. I’m finding it very hard to find value here.
