I just learned that the best instructor we had, arguably the best class I’ve ever taken at work, the instructor was one of the layoff victims. How does that work? We don’t care about teaching anymore? What does that say about our values and how we mentor our staff. This is beyond shocking, he was a great guy. And he won the award for best overall instructor. What a reward! Show him the door! Awards mean nothing!

OP is the person you are referring to a technical instructor or leadership development instructor?
Don’t need to teach people you plan to eventually lay off. How many managers and directors does a company need? Apparently a lot! Junior staff with just a few years experience are being hustled up the chain. Who cares if they actually know what they’re doing? They look good, talk good, nod their heads good, and don’t talk back or ask awkward questions. If you’re not on that track already, your number is coming up next. Don’t bring too much stuff into your office. You won’t be staying long.
And then look at who was kept. It’s not about ability.
There was this amazing teacher 5 years ago. And we $crewed him royally.
