The head is leaving. Rumours of large scale cutdowns too.

I see re-org starts. Just be quick. And I will be happy to go out with a package.
Seems like more changes coming in SSDC. Future gets dimmer ... so much politics ... seems like the CTO has a vendetta ..
So now that technology is near max out, design center should shrink and eventually closed?
Drives are maxed out on disk size & count. Mechanically, pretty much everything was pushed to the limit in sake of increase capacity and those teams made it happen. We squeezed in disks and disks and disks and heads and heads and heads. We tired. Your f-cking turn HAMR.
"It will work at some point in the future, it will be horribly late though and prevented the company from doing many better things. "
Please do tell, what "better things"? You sound like you have the answers.
Throw in some Tesla for diversification.
Perhaps I need to remind folks that Seagate has now spent over 2 billion on HAMR with essentially zero return to date. They should have just bought Bitcoin instead.
Be it how successful on HAMR is not related to the Shutting down of SSDC, so sure!
I think those defending HAMR here, probably are the big reason why it’s been such a disaster for years and continues to be. Probably a egomaniac Research guy :)
It will work at some point in the future, it will be horribly late though and prevented the company from doing many better things.
I think 5yui's point was that HAMR simply won't work reliably that higher areal density points, and the end has arrived. Working on HAMR, like MAMR, etc. Is a pretense for the stockholders to ignore that the end is approaching, if not near.
5yui - The only thing I get is that you're an id–t. You didn't even understand my point. What a dork.
5nfi - I think you finally got it!!! The end of rotating media is near - only incremental cost savings development in the near term. That why all the talent has left, retired, or been part of a layoff. You must be a low-cost sh&t shinner or a scared sh&tless middle manager.
4vuk - Gotta walk before you can run. They didn't produce PMR drives in quantity for a number of years either. Once that train left the station, all the other drive makers copied what they did.
Let's turn this discussion around. Even WD and Toshiba admits MAMR/EAMR whatever is only good for a few years. What then? The whole industry is stuck with HAMR to survive. Without STX grinding away, there will no longer be rotating drives.
They've been "making" HAMR drives for years. When I got let go in 2019 they hadn't yet found a way to get them anywhere in mass quantities.
Has that happened yet?
Stop lying 4okt.
HAMmeR came down on HAMR. Research guys couldn’t produce a workable solution - and k–led all alternatives and advancement on PMR. Jokers.
Now - things getting shut down on the design side.
It’s already done 2 years ago.

We don't talk about HAMR because we let it's success speak for itself.
They were doing HAMR in STST but that has been put on hold for the foreseeable future. Trying to produce too many products will inevitably see the sh1t hit the fan.
$shMar have
Where are they making the elusive HAMR drives?
Are they making HAMR drives?
Old leave, new join. Just wait for replacement and it’s business-as-usual.
SSDC CMI😭😭
Look at their CBP RDT1 stage ADC native 90% fail....CMi 😭😭
CT is a joke😭😭
FRE should be shut down ...
Look at their hideous roadmap and what is left there. New program BOMs way too expensive to replace the ones running since forever like forever.
Look at Shakopee for an example. Those you don’t prepare will suffer the consequences.
