Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Vacation bank?

  1. M. worked alone for months, when I could get 1 person back in May it was due to heavy work load so couldn't take time then. NO other staff all summer, Sept. Rolled around, rush, skeleton crew, quick turnaround for Spring semester, now it is March and haven't been able to use vacation.

Everyone else got furloughed, and made more money staying at home, rms and gvp and home office worked from home, but not S.M.'s. Not fair to lose our time owed. Oh, and paid less. Thanks.

I worked for a lot of places over thhe last 40 years.. not a single one was anywhere near as awful or evil as Follett. They sc--wed me at every turn and i'm ashamed i let them do it for nearly 5 years. They stole vacation time from me. They layed me off to rehire me as part time to get rid of my benefits. Hired me again as Store Manager, then layed me off again to hire me as a "Store LEad" or something like that. getting rid of store manager entirely (i still got to do the work though - i just got a 40% pay cut!).

It was stupid work. Stupid systems. Stupid Management. And Elephatns all the way down.

I was in the same boat. I Told my RM I was taking My vacation. They tried to find somebody to take over but could not so they just had me close the store. That’s how they did it because we’re all entitled to take that time. You don’t ever see a RM given up their vacation.

there is no way I would give up my vacation. This is part of your salary. Would you just give a check back to this company because that is exactly what you are doing when you do not take your vacation. You get on the phone and tell not ask your RM that you will be taking your earned vacation time and how would they like you to cover the store. There are laws in every single state regarding this. They can be fined heavily if they obstruct you from taking your paid time off. Also if your campus is closed during the Christmas holiday (no mail delivery, campus is locked) you are not required to use your vacation. Dig through the Hr policies you will be surprised at what's in there. Of course they don't push this information. But it is there so their a– is covered. But if the staff doesn't ask for what they have coming then the company doesn't have to pay, but they can say the information was there.

What a great place to work!

In another industry, I've seen doors close overnight. Money siphoned for 401K never deposited or given back. Back payroll and bonuses never paid. Employees were first in line to try to reclaim money, once they proved their claim. THe company I'm describing was a multi-generational family run empire.

Happens to me every year. I am a long hauler, get 5 weeks and for a number of years I have not been able to use them, since they cut staff basically. I am lucky to get in 3. There is not often a good time to take vacation and when the store is slow they throw in inventory, or staff takes time. If you run a large store it is much easier, they have lots of support staff, small stores are screwed, they have to wear many hats and do not have coverage.

Likewise, tied to the mast of a sinking ship. Doesn’t help when people at your campus are rude either.
