Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

What will happen to legal?

Recently laid off from legal but found something else right away. Concerned about its fate. Did TR hire the right VP who micromanages people levels below (never seen that from a VP), hired a close friend as a Sr Director right after COVID hit and people were let go. These two have fired many valuable employees who unlike them actually understand the legal software industry (but they are probablydoing what they are told to do?). A whole bunch of Sr Directors and Directors newly hired who bully subordinates. Morale is low and clients will suffer. VPs politics on LinkedIn. I thought TR steered clear of politics. Is TR just hoping those who aren't new or aren't Director level or above start looking elsewhere? What happened to delayering. What happened to visionary leaders?

Is there an actual story here or is it just regular TR churn?

You did well to rid yourself of this toxic organisation and move on. I reckon most people are looking and just waiting for the right opportunity/timing.

How does hiring overpaid incompetent Directors up to VPs help the cause of making lots of money for the shareholders when it screws everyone else?

Visionary leaders? The only vision TR has is to make lots of money for its shareholders. Period! Employee loyalty and going the extra mile means nothing. The only plan they have to grow the company is to cut costs and RIF people, even if it means doing stupid things like RIFing very experienced and knowledgeable employees. Obviously, RIFing thousands of employees between 2018 - 2020 is not going to raise morale. As for delayering, yeah right. There's more of chance of the sun rising in the west than delayering taking place. I wouldn't worry about this company's fate, - it's not worth the effort.
