Noticed that the average age of Centene employees that were part of the RIF was 50 years old, youngest was 39, oldest 74... so don’t tell me that even after the 1967 Age Discrimination Act, that it doesn’t exist in Corporate America. I am sure that their fancy lawyers have made sure to dot every I and cross every T regarding age discrimination to protect the company... but it seems fairly obvious when the average age is 50 and older. Hopefully this old gal will find something out there where wisdom and experience still matters.

@3thc+19Hr7OlN Exact same situation here, about to be recertified/renewed. I know one of the other RIFs in my department also had intermittent FMLA accommodations, a certain number of days off per month for health issues. Definitely not a coincidence. Combined with older age and higher salary, that’s all it took.
I’m 30 and got laid off right about the time they received the extension for my fmla. I know for a fact they let me go because of my disability
Here is how the RIF was processed:
- How much you make compared to peers in the team.
- If you aren't part of the inner circle with your VP - aka not fitting the culture
- Age
- Each department except Actuarial had to pick 2-3 or more for layoffs. The VP in Actuarial team pulled the right strings to safeguard their team.
I never said that I was a litigious person and was going after Centene for age discrimination, I know it can’t be proven, their lawyers have made sure of that., as I stated in my original post. I made an observation based on evidence of those that were a part of the RIF. Obviously you weren’t affected by the RIF, at least for now. Have a blessed and wonderful day.
You won’t be able to prove the age thing. You can try. You can even believe it to be true. But, trust me, no attorney will touch it because CNC has been extraordinarily careful in their selections.
I was part of the RIF and I’m 31.
Notice how they threw in a 30-something, but the rest are clustered in the mid-late 50s, 60s, even a couple of people in their early 70s? 16 RNs at FidelisCare NY.
Gotcha. I will be looking for that. Thank you.
My leadership frequently stated they wanted and needed to get young new blood in. Smells like ageism to me. Can't wait until these bozos are in the same position.
After you return the signed letter, you get a packet in the mail with your severance information and the list of employees in your department (title and age only).
@int+19Hr7OlN I just received my email and that information wasn’t provided; and I was apart of the RIF as well. I’m not surprised.
It exists. Hard to prove. I seen lot of lawsuits but they have lots of really good lawyers.
But they will argue it is money. Older make more money and they get rid of top money earners. That is legal. Not age. Money.
They cant hire a younger to replace older person due to age but due to money yes they can.
By the way, this occurs at other health plans. They do leave a few older employees around to avoid lawsuits. And they do get rid of some younger people in the mix.
Not fair. Welcome to a public company. You are not an employee. You are a cost.
I received my Release yesterday and questioned some wording...it said I may not sign prior to release day (3/12) or after I receive my last paycheck. I was then told that it just has to be after 3/12 and to ignore the other part about the last paycheck. I asked for an updated release with the correct info, but was denied. Ugh...can't get out of there fast enough...so toxic
As part of this layoff, my last day is next Friday. I still have not gotten my severance release. Called HR and they are still working on sending them out. Hoping mine shows up in the next couple of days. Knowing how much stress we are all under losing our jobs, you'd think those would have been available the day they cut us loose....just unbelievable to me.
It was broken down by job type and provided by Centene to those of us affected by the RIF , they have to provide it. It was in the paperwork
Where did you get this information?
