Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Rate of employee attrition

Is exponentially growing and accelerating across many orgs at EM! Good job smart ones! Good job.

I won't speak for all young employees of course but personally, I have been waiting for the perfect job. WFH has made it much easier to take video interviews during the workday. Also, from my experience, some of us are grossly overpaid for the work we actually do (note I said some and not all. I realize there are many of you out there who are working extra from the 2020 decrease in coworkers. More power to you folks.) So, I am happy to ride this gravy train and enjoy time with my family until that day comes.

Side note: this site has become overwhelmingly more positive and supportive in the last few weeks. Amazing to see and thank you all for making it so. Best of luck to you all.

I am questioning if we hire the best and brightest because they haven’t all quit yet. What are the young employees who haven’t quit thinking?

And it is about to increase now that the cat is out of the bag in investor day meeting

In an ominous sign for Exxon’s employees Swiger said there may be a “much larger amount of structural savings” on top of the thousands of jobs already eliminated. Woods chimed in that he was “confident there’s more opportunities” to save money.

It’s part of the plan. They need more to quit to meet their targets.

@ptr+19GfC8po EM is not above other oil majors. This is a fallacy. Also smaller companies also pay on the same level. Oil traditionally lay higher than other industries due to the cyclic nature of it. You give up job stability for money. That’s how it goes.

Amen! Well said!

Makes my day to hear about the attrition. It’s a nice big middle finger to the c-appy managers.

I left and don't regret it, get your experience and leave. I no longer live in swampy humid Houston and live in sunny Atlantic breeze Florida making almost same compensation in a stable industry. Just do it!

My manager at EM always told us that we're so fortunate enough to be employed by EM because EM employees represent the 10% wealthiest in the world. We're entitled. Such an arrogance and truth be told, that's a lie. Total compensation at other companies are also great. I have access to the salary ranges of employees at my current new company and it's a lot better than EM. But why did my EM manager brainwashed me believing EM has the greatest pay?

If you are undecided just start applying for jobs. Worst thing that can happen is you decline. Best thing you may find a better job and life.

Everyone I know is looking to escape. Everyone. I do hang out with people who aren’t satisfied with mediocrity though.

I can’t understand why any young engineer would stay with the company. Look around at what happens here. Have the presence of mind and maturity to not fall into the trap of thinking it won’t happen to you as well. Get out while you can and have skills others desire. Get out while you still can!

Listen to management and the words they use to describe us. They see us as entitled and ungrateful less than human and replaceable. If you think they are eager to restore benefits, raises, 401k match etc you need to wake up. They have villa used us in their minds so they can treat us poorly. I’m just waiting for them to require us to wear different clothes or a patch if we are below executive CL and it will be complete.

Anyone is replaceable in that broken machine. Everyone is just another cog. No matter how much they may try to pretend in a year from now that they cared and they did everything they could to navigate tough times and that “we were in it together”, we know it is a lie.

The trust is gone. None believes leadership has a realistic plan for a viable future.
It’s an awful place to be, it’s a depressing place to work, and I’m glad I’m starting a new job in two weeks.

Eff eads, eff the backstabbers, eff the clueless supervisors, eff the obsolete technology, and eff the pretend culture.

@reb+19GfC8po Houston is just fine, but why so far from where the young ones converge. EMHC's location is for the retirees or close to retire. Not me.

Only good, and perhaps all good people will leave and in the end we will be left with the worst of the worst to continue sinking this corporation.

Another big factor is the location. It's true that EMHC is pretty, but oh my the humidity! So I decided to move to a nicer city. No offense Houston, but it's just true. My outlook in life is so much better now with a nicer environment.

Yes, the grass is greener on the other side. When you have the chops, why not? When you want to have a brighter future, why not? I've witnessed EM at its worst and leaving on my own terms in the only the right thing to do! Attrition rules.

Young people leave as soon as you find a new job. The 401k match is gone and IF it does return it will be a 2 for 1 match, you pay in 2% and company pays 1%, with a maximum XOM of 3%. The pension will also be eliminated for those employees less than 40 years of age. CL will be reduced one to two levels and salary treatment will also be reduced. Opportunities for advancement will be significantly extended as will time in current positions. More divestments on the way, only maintenance CAPEX, no acquisitions and no growth projects. Work hours will be long, the environment very stressful and back stabbing will be commonplace. The only employees that will be left will be: the kool-aid drinkers; the "yes" men, women and LGBTQers; the no innovation and no risk takers; the back stabbers; and the management spies.

Due to circumstances they will always be able to hire people but their reputation have been gone down hill

Too many good people leaving to operate business. Fine piece of management that is. Seems to require significant improvement going forward.

I just want to be the next one!

Exhausted of working 12+ hrs in the mean time my boss is just waiting to retire. He knows we need more people in the group but no action has been taken.

On the EMIT Employee Forum today they acknowledged it’s a problem but I didn’t get the sense that they realize they’re not just losing a few people here and there but truly hemorrhaging good technical talent that they simply aren’t going to be able to recruit back.

Smart to leave on your own timing rather than when the company decides they no longer need you because you have trained your replacement in the BTC.
