Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

Did they try to keep you?

I wonder if Riverbed tried to keep anyone here after that one person quit?
I don’t really believe in the story I heard, so I want to see what your experiences are like. Allegedly the person resigned and Riverbed then offered some more benefits to keep that person here.
I doubt very much that this is possible, and it seems to me that Riverbed doesn’t really care about people no matter how good employees they might be.

Class A Founder shares were still paying out last year, and some of us got a good return on the money we put in which was mainly from RSU's at going private in my team. Class B paid peanuts. Cash flow position must be desperate if that is excuse for not buying back now.

Shame to see a good company go so bad

Has anyone who left the company received anything for their founder or new hire options? Of course not. Anyone actually buy founder shares with your own money and how did that work out?

So they offered you more options to stay, You must be very important bra.

I can confirm, riverbed still offers “stock options”. In general, it doesn’t matter if the shares are options or those weird founder shares, it’s all toilet paper money (probably less valuable than toilet paper actually).

Riverbed needs to keep certain people, just look at the executive circus we have now. Counter offering seems reasonable since what respected leader would want to join riverbed?!

Ex-Riverbed Director here. When I resigned I was offered a salary increase of 20%, more stock options and a one off ‘retention bonus’ to stay (15% of annual salary)

I declined. If they could offer that, then why didn’t they before I wanted to leave? The company smelt of desperation, and I’m glad I left. Life is much better when you’re in a growing company

Riverbed keeps its people with VP, director title. a title. Most don't deserve a title because they get lazy and think they are above it all. I have never seen so many VP and Director titles as I have at Riverbed. A title does not make a person better. Quite the opposite, it makes him more arrogant. And that's how it is at Riverbed. The problem Riverbed has is that the foundation is not right. It's certainly not all bad but there are certain points that need to be fixed. Lack of product innovation, wrong expectations, etc. It's just frustrating when partners accuse us of lacking innovation.

The people riverbed will keep are those that are doing the work, or doing work no one else can (or wants) to do or in a highly visible role that can’t be back filled very easily. It’s a sh_t show so don’t expect anything other than what benefits TB or the terrible senior leadership we posses.
