Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Is it really this bad?

I have been looking for employment elsewhere, since Centene bought WellCare. It seems like since the pandemic hit, its been rather difficult . I have more than a decade of experience and education under my belt. I have sent out so many resumes, and put in so many profile. Either companies call you just to gather info and say they are passing it alone to their leaders, they wanna low ball you with the pay, they are temporary /contract / or part time. Now that I am seeing how things are unfolding with Centene, I have definitely amped things up when it comes to applying outside the company . I just get a little frustrated with how long it is taking for me to receive the right offer. All I can do is continue to do what I have been doing, hopefully eventually soon something will give.

Please tell me other people have better experiences than this? I want to start looking, but this is so discouraging (although I do appreciate the honesty!)

Yes, it is very bad because companies are trying to cut costs due to the pandemic. I think I applied over 100 jobs without a call. I have a very strong background and have been with the company a long time. But my age is going to be part of it. They know I been in the job force a long time.

And the companies are picky and not in a rush. I have seen the same job posted for months with 25 plus applicants (not total but current) and growing.

Lot of people looking. Lots of chances to low ball for wages.

Best bet is to wait for another major layoff at another health plan which will open up opportunities. That sounds crazy, but that is how you can get in when they over reduce folks and some leave due to the extra workload.

But one thing about a new job. I cannot put in 12 hours days and weekends. And I need time off too to take a trip (at least a week). Hard to find a job with those restrictions. Meaning work life balance versus work work work work abuse work work work abuse work work work. It never stops. You are there to make management wealthy. Not the company. It is that simple.

I have experienced the same thing. I’ve found jobs. However, they want to lowball terribly. I believe jobs are out there that pay decent, but people in position maybe helping their family and friends. Networking is big and important. I tried to find something ASAP, but I was laid off before I had a chance. It’s rough out here. Good luck!
