Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Start preparing now

We all know there'll be more layoffs, there's no escaping that. If you are considering leaving the company for some place with more job security, now's the time to start working on it. When you have a job, potential employers look at you differently than when you don't. Even if you losing your job was in no way your fault, there is still stigma surrounding those affected. They're seen as potentially not being strong performers. Unfair, but a reality.

As someone in the final stages of an offer, I second this. You can also bring this up as a point for leaving. Just my recommendation: get on LinkedIn, update your profile and highlight accomplishments at a high level. Then connect with recruiters in your area of expertise! The bigger your network, the more you are seen, recruiters will start approaching you with open opportunities. Best of luck to all.

@kgi+19D5Grg8 Exactly what I am going through right now. I was laid off in the last round and it was difficult trying to find something before and even worse now.

I have been looking for employment elsewhere, since Centene bought WellCare. It seems like since the pandemic hit, its been rather difficult . I have more than a decade of experience and education under my belt. I have sent out so many resumes, and put in so many profile. Either companies call you just to gather info and say they are passing it alone to their leaders, they wanna low ball you with the pay, they are temporary /contract / or part time. Now that I am seeing how things are unfolding with Centene, I have definitely amped things up when it comes to applying outside the company . I just get a little frustrated with how long it is taking for me to receive the right offer. All I can do is continue to do what I have been doing, hopefully eventually soon something will give.

@OP+19D5Grg8 This was something I was worried about.

@vfr+19D5Grg8 Congratulations! I surely hope this will be my story soon.

Luckily the recruiters and employers I’ve met with were extremely understanding - I landed a job. I agree people should have a plan because it’s so uncertain...but some people that have been at WellCare for years are holding on for the severance (which I don’t blame them and it’s a little less $$$ in the CEO’s pocket).
