Someone said it well, the story of pandemic bonuses is just a distraction and I feel very weird as we talk about bonuses and at the same time expect to be laid off. I have a colleague who worked at another company and got a bonus the same week she was notified of the layoff. So it won’t surprise me if we get a bonus followed by layoffs. Not sure why the companies are doing this to us? These are definitely crazy times.

We've got some MLM level brainwashing happening to these hardcore BN employees. Normal people do not act like this.
Just like in 18. Fired over 3000 ! ( 5 positions eliminated. Mag., Bargain, receiving, head cashier, digital) 640 stores times 5 = 3200. NOT the 1800 they told the press.
It’s all about spinning the truth to look better.
They’ll throw 200 at you, you’ll pay taxes on it, it’ll be included in your wages for 2021 & you’ll pay federal & state tax on it, when you file.
Corporations only go out of their way to cover something up, to look good for some public reason or to protect themselves for something that is going on or will happen. Some other companies have done this and I'm sure B&N doesn't want to look as bad as it really is. They're trying to make it look like everything is sunshine and rainbows- then SLAM, You're all out of jobs!
I can just read their PR connections, well, we gave all of our employees $200 bonuses for doing such a great job in such a difficult time. It's sad to report however, that we feasibly cannot keep the company going any longer.... blah blah blah
