Thread regarding Follett layoffs

MOS

On the weekly conference call with Regional CM he remarked that this was the most amount of books marked out that he'd ever seen in all his time with Follett.
It's the most our store has ever done from what I've been told.
Couple that with no incoming GM & we're looking pretty shaky.

Typical follett MO. It's clear few really knows what happens and how the system works. Just do it and sgtay off of the non-compliance list. Great way to run a business.

I would imagine it has something to do with taxes. They probably get a tax break for operating at a loss or something. However, it is not a donation. BWB sells the books for profit, and then they donate a small portion and Follett also gets a portion of the sale. It stinks for stores because the MOS affects the bottom line, and our payroll, salary, etc suffer, as well as struggling to get books in, and then the higher ups are getting the benefits.

It was something like 15 million dollars total, I believe. Can anyone explain why Follett might be doing this now at the end of the FY? Do they get to write it off as a tax deduction or something since the books get donated?

It was a large MOS wasn’t it. Just packed mine. Some of the books I used just last year. Weird....
