I’ve noticed that people here are divided into those who panic and think they’ll get laid off any minute now and those who are sure they won’t be the target and will survive many more rounds. Usually, layoffs are handed to those who are overconfident because they still haven’t realized that it there isn't much logic behind layoffs - someone may be the best worker, but they will still be axed.

no one is more hated than he who speaks the truth
the workplace, work offices is NOT your home. coworkers are NOT your friends, the boss is not your daddio. you're not family etc..in the office corporate. you do the job, smile alot, pretend, and bail. Snack trains, coffee bars, fuzey balls, arcade games, airsoft, etc...do NOT belong in the office corporate. The blurring lines between work and private life is intentional.
SMile, keep head down, do the absolute bare minimum, and collect that check. Rinse, lather, repeat and smile alot. It helps make those bosses think you're a happy goody goody worker
I’m a confident one. Been here over 9 years and well liked. I do the bare minimum and very confident I will not be let go. Friends with by current boss. Same birthdays and same previous employee. Current boss believes whatever I tell her. Friends with my previous boss and some executive leaders. I’ll post if it ever happens but I confident it won’t. No worries here. Make friends people.
The reality is, EVERYONE is on the layoff list at Optum. I've been here over 15 years, and made it through way too many layoff cycles with no idea as to how. Sometimes you move up the layoff list, sometimes you move down. But we are ALL, ALWAYS ON IT!
Generally, what makes this place tolerable, are the people you work with. Having said that, Optum has become a place that has normalized that fact, and it is time to go. This is coming from someone who did get a 5 on their review, great bonus and raise.
LOl- sorry, that linky thing was a bad joke.
Really, it's a sad meme for not all- but many out of touch- boomers, corporate simps-corporate cringe, virtue signaling PC gibber, and employee debt slaves dancing to the propaganda company beat.
The only thing that will likely help is to have family member be a C suite in a corporation....that will definitely help getting folks "linked" in.
It isn’t over confidence for me. Its accepting the inevitable. If I am going to be let go and I constantly come in and do my job well, there is not anything I can do about it. Im just a name on a list, whether is bc of the good old boys club or a financial decision due to where I fall salary wise or bc someone hates me, I have zero control. This is what corporate life is like, especially in a publicly traded company. United/Optum aren't special in that regard. All large corps do this BS.
I keep my resume up-to-date, my LinkedIn profile is always set to open for work and I have done a few interviews to test the waters. I am confident in my skills to know there is life after this place if I am axed. In the meantime, I keep my head down and just do my job.
"... has a family to support and is losing her health insurance because of it also but hey at least the CEO is getting 19 MILLION for leaving. There is a special place in hell for him and for YOU with your heartless comment. "
That was the US empire. Heartless, vacuous, void of spirit, decency. Just hustling and consumerism. Why would "health" "care" be any different–it's another US economic hustle/capitalism. Vile and disgusting that that pos makes ~19,000,000 per year as there's STILL no universal health care in the US empire but they got lotsa monies for endless wars, military bases and nukes. Yet NO health care and no employment rights/laws to protect US employees. Thank you for disservice. Wage slaves + Stockholme symdrome= US employees.
@OP+19AseZ3Q You state that - Usually, layoffs are handed to those who are overconfident? What kind of evil dirtbag are you. I have a relative (not saying who) who was let go by this slimy company who had a SPOTLESS RECORD and near perfect work record just let go. She has a family to support and is losing her health insurance because of it also but hey at least the CEO is getting 19 MILLION for leaving. There is a special place in hell for him and for YOU with your heartless comment. May you be next on the block.
In an efficient capitalist world, who is laid off would be merely based on who is the most expensive relative to the value they bring to the firm. We don't live in that world. We never will.
Well said.
The most accurate post I’ve seen
maybe some are like me and you just think they're overconfident vs. not caring. i've worked for the company a long time. when i started i knew what i was walking into because the company reputation is out there.... very toxic. but i had specific monetary goals. now those goals have been met and i could care less if i'm laid off. i went to hr due to a good old boys issue in tech a few years back and won't be promoted and can't post out of the position i'm in. i've had some good offers as far as titles go outside the company but won't take less than i make unless i'm laid off.
