Seems like layoffs are happening quietly and sneakily - I and 30 other people (that I know of) were laid off during "goal setting" meetings with our leaders. It is an unfortunate way to treat employees - watch out for crashing morale!
This is not new for Suncor. Stealthy layoffs have been happening for a while now. Frankly, you should already be looking for a new job if job security is important to you.
Oakville/ Mississauga: White collar jobs:
It's "who's your dad" OR "father in law". Every Gen Xer on down to Millennial has gotten their job through some now retired boomer who worked or was connected with Suncor/ Petro-Can Oakville.
Lots of deadwood. Really could trim some fat here. A bloated mid-level management/ Jr Management.
If head office (Calgary) or shareholders were ever dialed in enough there could be some HUGE cost saving's with downsizing/ eliminating this unit.
A lot of money in Oakville and their kids have to work somewhere.
Are the layoffs over for good?
Next month everyone gets the pink slip in Mississauga/ Oakville.
Long time coming. Way overdue.
Calgary can absorb all duties from that boutique non producing satellite office.
Need to Hunter Harrison this company. Enhance the dividends and get the stock price up.
Don’t bother coming to Alberta either.
Suncor is not as consistent and stable as CNRL is. Depending on department you are in, things can be very harsh.
Things are different now than before
