Other Operator Moving Personnel from Midland to Woodlands to Save Money

Another operator says they will save 15% by moving from Midland to The Woodlands. Somehow Management still pretends the cost of living in Midland is the same as Houston.

If they try transfer you to Midland or Williston just say know unless you like to work more and make less.

People are already quitting in Midland and the flood gates will really open up now that oil is above $50. Company is clueless and will lose people who have spent years figuring out the unconventional space. Just look at how well things have worked out when they try apply the global projects model to unconventionals. A total bust for the teams who went that route while teams that have not are k–ling it. Dig into the numbers a bit if you have access and you will see what I mean. Too often XTO is spoken of as if it is one BU and area being run the same everywhere. It is not and the performance differences are unbelievable when you look closer.

You have the makings of a great journalist. Make the headline, and your argument, completely irrelevant from what the article actually says.

You have a bright future with Big Media.

off topic

ha! More folks coming to The Woodlands. It is surprising to me but the housing building boom going on here, at least around me. (Gorgans Mill) I live on the 4th tee box of the Woodlands Tournament Players Course (TPC). My home is 40 yo, worth maybe $500K. Builders around me are tearing down (or gutting) these 1980’s homes and building +million dollar dwellings. Also, in East Shore (Lake Woodlands) 2 to 3 million dollar homes are going up and being sold. And now we have more people coming from Midland, ha! (Just kidding, you are welcome indeed!)

But, I thought we were suppose to be in some kind oil industry layoff depression? Where is all this money coming from, who are buying these homes?. Seriously.

Read article. They are closing their Tulsa and Andrews offices. Downsizing their Midland office and moving those who choose to move to consolidated Corporate office in Houston. Savings always comes from consolidation. You can’t tell me cost of living in Tulsa is higher than Houston, so why are they closing that office?

We once had offices in New Orleans, Thousand Oaks, Midland, Corpus Christi, Kingsville and more. Only Midland remains, thanks to Permian operations. Shortly after the closings, operations in those areas were sold or downsized. The satellite offices consolidated to Houston resulted in redundancies and many folks who chose not to move there, unlike Bud and Sissy. Same is happening to Ring. They too are keeping Midland open, derelict.

Had to go to campus yesterday for first time in a few years. The Houston area is nasty and way too much traffic. I’d say Midland/Odessa area may have traffic, but only a few miles rather than hundreds. I prefer west Texas over metropolis’ any day.
Why would someone say “know”?
