Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

What is the best path out of Claims?

As someone who has spent years as an auto claims adjuster, I am just ready to get out.

Other that have experience in applying, what do you think is the best path out of claims for someone with a degree?

Open to other areas of insurance as well.

Basically, you are talking about reinventing yourself, reinventing your career. There are so many options! You could go to school, earn a masters and start in a new field. You could turn a passion or hobby into a business. You could start in a new field without a masters. What’s most important — what do YOU want to do next? There are a lot of great books on this topic. The Pathfinder is one. What Color is Your Parachute is another. Bottom line: spend time thinking about this. Talk to family and friends who know you well and can help you understand your passions and strengths. You will need to spend time doing some thinking and reflecting, but it will be so worth it in the end.

Take the leap of faith in yourself and get a higher degree. Find something that interests you. Maybe go to Law School.

Whether you are in claims or another part of Allstate if you want out and want to remain in insurance best to get your application out there now. Remember that in the past 6 months thousands of Allstaters were let go and have already taken many available insurance jobs. At the next RIF the pickings may be slim while those laid off before you are settled into those jobs. Look now or risk a lesser insurance job market later. Remember with this horrific Transformative Growth and the scum running this company you are not safe no matter what position you are or how important you think you are. They simply do not care.

If you are in claims and looking for a position outside of claims you will want to leave Allstate. I am a leader and do recruiting and interviewing for two areas within Allstate other than claims and I can say that many areas within Allstate avoid hiring claims employees as much as possible. There has unfortunately been a label placed on claims employees of being negative with poor attitudes and being problems. I for one have not seen it myself but I have instructions to vet out claims employee applications and to just interview a few here and there to cover our hind parts. If in claims move on from Allstate as a lot of areas will not consider you. Some may but I am not familiar which ones and not able to recommend such areas. Best to your future!

If you're looking to get out of adjusting claims but want to build on your expertise and experience. Consider becoming a claims auditor. You know the process and steps that should be taken in a claim so your knowledge base would help.you in identifying areas of opportunity. If you area looking to completely get out of claims try HR recruiting. You know what type of personalities that thrive in this high pased environment. Just analyze your peers and prior colleagues. Much luck to you in your career search!
