Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Recovering from the stress

Before I got laid off from Allstate, I noticed that the company had a very shaky reputation and I became ashamed to reveal to new acquaintances where I work. I used to be proud to have worked here, but at one point I became embarrassed. I got a new job a few days ago and I feel one big relief. I want to forget the last months of work here as soon as possible. I just wonder how long it will take me to recover from all the stress I suffered here...

Allstate lack of ethics and business practices has caused a lot of people to have PTSD. Seeing a therapist now.

As someone who has a loved one diagnosed with PTSD, I encourage you to seek professional help to diagnose it and manage it if you have any suspicion you might be suffering from it. PTSD can be debilitating and it is certainly life-altering. There is hope but it requires investing in your health, your environment and your support system, all of which take diligence and time. Please, don’t wait. The first step is often the hardest.

This company handled and continues to handle human beings like machines. That’s why everyone almost at every level except Tom Eric and Glenn levels are very demotivated and disgusted. It comes down to the horrible way people get treated here that has caused all this mental anguish Stress is so high it’s amazing more are not on stress leave. Some are. People will need months to recover after leaving Allstate. PTSD.

Whether you are in claims or another part of Allstate if you want out and want to remain in insurance best to get your application out there now. Remember that in the past 6 months thousands of Allstaters were let go and have already taken many available insurance jobs. At the next RIF the pickings may be slim while those laid off before you are settled into those jobs. Look now or risk a lesser insurance job market later. Remember with this horrific Transformative Growth and the scum running this company you are not safe no matter what position you are or how important you think you are. They simply do not care.

It's easy to think Allstate takes up the headspace of others, but the reality is even HR at a competitor isn't going to give it more than 15s of thought, because they'll just think eh, big insurance company. There's competents, stars, and incompetents at every big company, and you hope you'll avoid the incompetent ones. People totally underestimate the value of applying for a job while you have a job though, if you're one of those cut while most remain, it's not a good luck.

I was a "senior" adjuster booted out due to age and alleged poor metrics. 24 years with the company. I was fortunate and able to take 2 months off after I left "quit". I felt so much better mentally and physically after the time off, hard to describe the freedom felt away from the stress. For me the 2 months was just about perfect to regenerate my brain cells and move on to the next chapter.

Totally agree with the OP. Ultimately being laid off was a blessing. Rid of the nonsense and cluster that Allstate is.

Recovering from the stress is almost like being reborn. Between the severance, unemployment benefits, having a nice several month nest egg saved up, and the occasional government relief I got to enjoy the holidays and get to enjoy living life. The kids even said I am totally different now.

I knew Allstate was s—ing the life and soul out of me but didn't realize just how much until I was free. I plan on taking some more relaxing time for myself and family in the upcoming months allowing the pandemic to wane before jumping back into the daily work grind hopefully with a more stable normal company. I am a tad concerned about the mental abuse and potential PTSD that will remain once I get a new job but regardless it can't be any worse and I won't tolerate putting myself and remaining in such a toxic position and place again.
