Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Slow clap for our CEO (Jon or Alex??)

So congratulations to those that made the cut. Now you get to sit around and wait for more cuts in March. I really like looking around and seeing directors with three leads reporting to them and multiple managers or VPs where there was one before. It’s awesome seeing mgmt looking after themselves right before our eyes. Add on top of this all the promotions and it’s enough to make you sick. Maybe the lucky ones were let go?

This will lead to our next round of layoffs in a year where they realize we have too much useless mgmt and the cuts will come again and we will once again have one VP of EH&S vs the four or five we have now. Then all the useless directors under these VPs that serve no purpose will be cut. Those promotions can be not what they appear.

In closing great job Alex, lots of difficult decisions, too bad you didn’t apply the same rigour to the upper layers. You’re just like Brian F, enriching the management at the expense of the employees.

Slow clap.

I was Legacy Husky. Got cut on Tuesday. As I read these posts, I am so HAPPY to be gone. Enjoy cubicle life in Brookfield Place Call Centre.

How does Cenovus keep having this bloated management problem? Didn't their last CEO have a bloated management structure as well? (with upwards of 40 VPs?). It's no wonder their share price has been doing poorly for several years; the people in-charge clearly don't know how to run a company. They remind me of a bloated government.

Oh my god I love Alex, that guy is a comic. “Cenovus will be able to provide great employment opportunities for a long time to come”. Wow. This place offers nothing but mental abuse for the next year and even more layoffs down the road with the bloated management. Cenovus is a place to get paid and nothing more and never will be while they abuse the employees. And does anyone see an end to this? No there is no end.

Alex you have lost any credibility at all with any employees based on your new bloated management. Tough decisions? What a joke, only for us and not for you at the top.

Great post! This is exactly how it works and will continue to work. It is all about greed, ego and self preservation at the upper levels.

I wonder if their retention bonuses are affected by all the safety incidents during the integration?

I wonder if in his performance review by the board of directors (ha ha;._) mentioned all the debt taken on by the Conoco acquisition and how it led to throwing 2100 people into the street and into the foodbanks in the middle of winter and during a global pandemic. Make sure to tell this to your lawyer when you sue them for wrongful dismissal. It's time for all the remaining employees to form a Union. Yes Unions are a dirty word in the oil patch but now is the time. FORM A UNION. FIGHT BACK

The biggest difference is that the people who were let go this week will be better off mentally

Everybody who was let go is better off. Look on the bright side, in a few years we will all be getting UBI, own nothing and be happy.
