New math? Happy with (only) eight week launch delay due to quality.

DETROIT — Ford Motor Co.'s product development and purchasing boss says he's pleased with the automaker's recent new-vehicle launches, despite delivery delays for some of the most eagerly anticipated models, and that quality issues are falling from year-earlier levels.

Initial deliveries of the Bronco SUV, originally due this spring, have been pushed back to summer because of COVID-19-related supplier issues, Ford said last month. Last week, the automaker said shipments of "several hundred" Mustang Mach-E crossovers could be delayed as long as eight weeks for additional quality checks.

Who in their right mind would be pleased with this news? Managing optics not quality.

Ole Henry Ford had better business sense than current generation. He understood about having controls over inputs.
You see same missteps happening with other “family” companies. For example Sam Walton had much better business sense than current generation of Walmart heirs.
Some US companies mis-stepped and then corrected. For example Winnebago has brought a large portion of their component manufacturing back to US onsite to control quality and time to market. Kudos to them for that.

Another reason to manufacture everything in the good old US of A. A global economy driven by free as apposed fair trade causes a lot of issues. Buy American should include raw material and assembly!!

There are a lot of problems that are totally within Ford’s control to both prevent and resolve.
Deflecting blame to the small portion of things not in Ford’s control is a Ford art form, most recognize it for what it is. Another day at Ford.

I agree with one of the previous posters, quality issues are not the sole cause of the production delays at Ford plants. Just last week there were news articles about the global chip shortage further complicating production for all carmakers. The Kentucky plant may be shut down for two weeks because of Covid related problems at one of their suppliers. The issue is more complex then just quality as important as that is for Ford's survival.

To be fair supplier issues are delaying everything in every heavy industry. Ordering a fridge might take weeks. It's hardly limited to Ford.

Pretty bad when you take credit for incremental gains when compared to our disappointing Explorer launch. I have a feeling there will be more to the launch issues story in the weeks to come when new owners find things missed in the offsite repair centers.
