Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Toxic workplace review coming

Look forward to the upcoming toxic workplace review coming. This will involve current and former employee testimony. People have a right to know exactly what has been happening and has happened here. If nothing is wrong here then an inpendant review will show this. Currently no audit, no measurements, no employment standard or employment policy accountability. Financial accountants should never run HR departments full stop. Loyalty over principles is wrong always and everywhere for every single working Canadian; this is happening elsewhere as we are seeing.

All Husky and Cenovus employees let go need to go see a lawyer (Free for 30 minute consultation.
You are being layed off in the middle of a global pandemic and the a global economic crisis.
Your leaders are using government wage supplement money to pay their own bloated salaries and bonuses that go up every year. They are using these wage supplements and the Alberta corporate tax reduction to pay dividends while the company is not profitable. Husky has a poor record of safety and oil spills over the last 5 years . They are not following the rules for corporate board reporting which came into effect in 2019. You are being asked to sign something while under duress (unlawful if not totally illegal. ) Your one month per year of compensation for every year of service package may look enticing at first glance. Think about it. You will NEVER find a job that pays as well as the one you are losing. Don't s— in to the help you are being provided to find another job. YOU WONT FIND ANOTHER JOB with 11% unemployment that keeps going up. Fight back. Call your MLA and MP. Talk to the media through the systems they have in place for anonymous reporting of stories. Don't let them get away with this without causing a STORM

I worked at husky for many years... it was completely toxic and got progressively worse as everyone realized the mess they had made for themselves

Hard working employees were fairly rewarded, and yes I even know of an HR guy who got let go for not resolving an issue. So ... if you did not work for Husky better keep opinions for yourself. It was not a toxic place!

Why is HR commenting on threads like this, on sites like this?

Do your job, protecting management.

How does downplaying legitimate employee concerns, spewing how great of a place it is to work when it obviously is not helps management?

Let people speak the truth.

Human resources like natural resources are there for companies to pillage as they see fit.

Coming from Husky if you ever raised a legitimate concern you were silenced. I made a fuss that it we kept doing things the way they were corrupted, the entire company would fail and have to be sold.... 3 yrs later here we are

Every year since 2012 we have had layoffs, sometimes twice a year. It’s just not worth it. As other posters have said I would never encourage any student to work at Cenovus or oil and gas for that matter it’s not worth the psychological toll it takes on a person. Even the VP of EH&S sent out an email to his staff on Friday telling them this is a “sunset industry” (his words) and basically telling his staff to look elsewhere.

Now if a VP is telling you there is no future at Cenovus one should heed his advice and look elsewhere. His email is now circulating throughout the company.

There is so much negativity on here, but Cenovus really is a great company to work for. Extremely understanding and supportive during the pandemic. Excellent pay, benefits and bonus structure! Respectful and supportive management. The only toxicity I have encountered is on these anonymous sites, and I don’t believe it is reflective at all! The combined company will have much better diversification between oil sands, Deep Basin gas and some refining. There is lots of opportunity to improve profits and realize better value from more diverse assets. It’s a much stronger entity combined, and the future is on a more solid foundation.

I also had a fantastic and supportive Manager at Husky and worked with an incredibly talented and productive team. So sad that it is all coming to an end.

I work for the best boss I had in my entire career! It hope he is chosen by the new leadership at Cenovus! No toxic reviews at my end, regardless how it will end. I had a great time at Husky!

Anyone who thinks HR is there to help the employee is a fool. They are there to protect the company from financial losses due to employees and issues that may arise from them. We are fodder for the great machine to be spit out when no longer useful (i.e. like what’s going to happen next week).

" Financial accountants should never run HR departments" you are very naive to believe a HR department is ever in place to serve the employees. It's sole purpose is to manage us as a resource for the corporation, no different than managing a motor pool, a vehicle is acting up or not hauling enough, you get rid of it.

Is this happening or something you want to happen as a consequence of layoffs? Sounds like a promising new company... Yikes.
