He plays the part... animal lover, vegan, soft spoken... but if you speak with any officer of the company they will all tell you the same thing—he is a snake.
He’s a smart guy, you don’t get to the c-suite of a Fortune 500 by accident, but privately he has no regard for front-line workers and has stated so in meetings.
Look at his track record at Hartford, then Liberty and now here. He is not a “nice guy,” he has made a career of gutting departments and companies to show record profits for a few quarters then he moves on to the next leaving the organization to put the pieces back together.
Executives must make hard decisions, I honestly don’t resent the amount they’re paid, many are worth it because the impact of their actions are good for the big picture and some genuinely deserve the benefit of the doubt. I can promise you Glenn Shapiro is not one of them. He is not here to build anything—he will be gone in 2 years max and sell his “results” to the next insurance company.
For the past 15 years Tom Wilson has slowly k–led this once great American company, hiring Glenn Shapiro simply accelerated the inevitable.
Many of the best executives and senior leaders in Allstate were not even given the opportunity to interview to keep their jobs—people who dedicated 30+ years to this company and did an amazing job. The only true Allstater left in Northbrook is Guy Hill in Product Management.
