Everyone working for this company should have a backup plan. Companies in the industry are having layoffs and ours is no different. So why not be prepared? We all know the job market is not doing great with hundreds ( if not thousands ) of people vying for the same positions. Don’t be that one person who believed they were safe only to find themself out in the cold with nothing to fall back on.

My VP that never took the time to get to know me for the three years I was at MetLife texted me while I was on PTO the week after Thanksgiving. He asked if I had time to talk to him and then I knew there were layoff's coming. I was told my position was eliminated.
Massive layoffs at MetLife during December mostly older workers. Massive age discrimination at the Company.
To the original poster, many of us came to MetLife for a career at MetLife.... myself and many colleagues wanted to work for Met and rise through the ranks at Met and there is no shame in that. Before the company went public, we were recognized for our hard work and talent, and my management back then totally had our backs and supported advancement, they handed out projects and opportunities based on our talent, like candy. So your backup plan idea was not always "a thing" and it's a shame it has gone that way. Now go polish off your back up plan, cuz it might serve you well when it's your turn.
Employment at any company these days is not something to be viewed as stable or reliable, however MetLife has an extremely toxic cultural rampant with backstabbing incompetent management. This last round of layoffs included a good number high performers. The only thing management is doing here is lowering the collective IQ to that of their own by eliminating people who actually add value by thinking and performing.
The only "backup plan" is to blindly apply for 100s if not 1000s of open positions on-line and if you are lucky you might hear back from one.
With that said, MetLife is not the place to be in good times or bad.
Spoken like a true HR Rep
Hmmmmm, poster sounds like they could be management/leadership.
With the above in mind, what possible 'backup plan' would you suggest?
