Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Memo to Allstate Executives...

Thought I would share a message I received after applying for a position with Progressive Insurance. Please note the tone of the message as well as the fact they’re willing to share results of their assessment with a prospective employee.

While it was just one difference out of several I’ve experienced so far, I believe it speaks volumes about the difference in corporate cultures at Allstate and Progressive.

Check it out -

Dear XXXXXXXXX,
Please click on the link below to take our employment assessment. This will help us evaluate your qualifications as well as your fit with our company values. Both are important to your success at Progressive.

The link expires in five days, so be sure to complete the assessment as soon as possible.

How it works

  • The assessment gauges how you solve problems, communicate, and reason. It also looks at how you apply learnings to new situations.
  • You'll find questions about your approach to customer service, your ability to multi-task, your work ethic and style, and how you adapt and collaborate.
  • On average, it takes about 50 minutes to complete.
  • The test is the same for all jobs. Depending on the role, we may weigh the answers differently.
  • While you can take the assessment on a mobile device, we recommend taking the test on a desktop or laptop with a reliable internet connection and updated browser.

For more information, visit the Tips and Tools section of Progressive.com.

What happens next
We'll email results to you within two business days. Please note that our recruiting team only sees whether you qualified or not - we don't receive specific details about how you performed so we cannot provide that information.

We're here to help
If you are experiencing technical difficulties, please clear your cache and shut down your browser and restart it. If that does not work, please email Support@FurstPerson.com or call 800-229-5881. If you've already taken this assessment with Progressive within the last six months, have log in issues, or have questions, please email shared_services@progressive.com.

Good luck!

No one will ever find out anything about the Allstate assessments until if’s litigated. Which is only a matter of time.

Progressive Insurance is the best company to work for. So glad I took the decision to leave Allstate. I know people who have done the same and are so much happier. Plus an awesome Gainshare bonus. Join Progressive to work with awesome people, great culture and reap the benefits of Gainshare. This company is growing and will not look back just because it has focused on its employees.

So should you stay with uncertainty at Allstate or leave to go with another carrier? A few people I know who left to progressive are a lot happier than they were at Allstate. Claims are claims where you go but you have to weight your options.....

So what? Pre-hire assessments are nothing new and doesn’t give you any insight into the organizational culture anymore than reading the “About Us” section of a website. How naive — good luck in your job search

This guy knows Progressive, IMO they are worse than Allstate. They make you beat files to death in their equivalent of LDU. Would get 3 claims dumped on my 30 minutes before the end of my shift and walk in to 12-14 on a Saturday. 2 hour callback required! I remember spending hours trying to price a destroyed porch on an abandoned house or trying to subro the parents of a little girl who hit a car with her bike LOL. They also look to deny EVERYTHING, I couldn’t believe the stuff we pay at Allstate compared to prog. The grass isn’t always greener

Progressive s—s too. Burn out job . They give you a huge workload that requires putting in 10–12 hours a day and then write you up for lack of time management and organizational skills. Turnover is way worse over there ! Get used to getting transfer files from coworkers who quit every 6 months .

The fire or the frying pan. Insurance is all the same.

It really doesn’t seem like you’re going to receive the actual results of the assessment, only whether or not you qualified, based on the assessment. It literally says they can’t provide that information because they don’t receive specifics about how you performed. You may want to double check. Best of luck to you

Eh, prog s—s too in their own way, I worked there 8 years. Hours/stress very similar to Allstate and I make more money after 6 years at Allstate than I did 8 years at prog. They have gain share which is nice (once a year bonus based on company stock, can be thousands of dollars). Day to day it’s similar BS and the amount of fraudulent claims is out of control there
