Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I got laid off one week before I took my PPTO

I can’t imagine that’s a coincidence.
I am the expert on my team and worked my butt off so it was not a performance issue. I was the team lead, and was mentoring newly transitioned employees to the tech. My salary was high since I was an experienced hire.

Did my first SDA; announced my vacation plans + wife was going to deliver so was going to use PPTO. Got a last minute 1:1 meeting to find out I was laid off.

Answer I got was it was due to my previous ranking. I WAS NEVER RANKED BEFORE!

Wow. Um. Sorry?

Obviously politics went into all of the involuntary decisions. And if you can read, @OP was more concerted about PPTO than the politics. He wasn't ranked, remember?

You don't need to worry. I'm consistently ranked very high and am currently in a very safe role. Highly doubtful to be let go. Though it doesn't really matter, this company is going in the sh–ter. Time to get out when things recover. Really wish I was selected for involuntary just to cash in on the pension that will be non-existant when I retire.

@bamq+18rUQLHW The PPTO is not the issue. Based on what the op wrote, it is political. There are multiple reasons besides performance as to why people are let go. I’d say performance is 50% and intangibles are the other 50%. Most performances are equal among engineers in my experience. Personality, likability, background, network, etc all play an equal and often times greater factor. I can promise you this.

Oh and by the way, let’s correct your English and spelling a little. - Your remark also is plain stupid. I hope you were sepArated from the company because you obviously are NSI. - If you were more socially aware you would realize those words in context are not stupid. Your interpretation of them is however.

It’s not moral to hope bad things have happened to people. Let me show you the right attitude, and I’m guessing attitude is what got you removed form the company. - I’m sorry your uncle touched you inappropriately. I’m sorry you are involuntarily celibate. I’m sorry you have a micro pe–sor for a woman’s case a flat chest. I’m sorry you are a poor performer. I’m sorry you are a jealous person who makes it their priority to go through life spewing hate. I’m sorry you never got the love every human deserves. You see how I did that? I don’t hope those things happened to you. I am sorry if they have been your experience. It sure seems that way.

Wow. Umm. Yeah. Wow. Coming to this site and complaining about being let go because of PPTO is just stupid. @OP likely had many other faults besides taking time off. Maybe unlucky and the wrong place at the wrong time. Likely had to do with the experienced hire and was not a "company fit". Calling themselves a self proclaimed expert at 20s~30s is just laughable.

BTW - Your remark also is just stupid. I hope you were seperated from the company because you obviously are NSI.

I’m sorry this happened to you. You didn’t deserve it. It’s not moral. This is so absurd to be based on a rank that never happened. I have seen similar type of blunders on that level.

OP sorry to hear.
Enjoy the holidays and the newborn. And be happy that you are no longer an employee at a company that has 0 value to its employees :)

Exp Hire Here......I agree with posts, you were a target since you were an exp. hire/ it has nothing to do with your capabilities/skills. Some say there are no such things as coincidences. Nevertheless, u must realize that as an experienced hire you are not pedigree. You are only a donkey and a slave to the firm and they will bleed you dry for all your knowledge and know-how. You would have to be an Albert Einstein or Wernher Von Braun to beat all this baloney.

How could you never have been ranked before if you are the expert?

This was most certainly not a coincidence. That is what this company has come to. They value no one.

Get over yourself, it's not because you were on PPTO that you were let go.

I am the OP...
I dont think I am that old as I just turned 31. Maybe for XOM I am old. Regardless I still do not think it was a coincidence.

Letting go of experienced hired is stupid on their part. People that only have xom experience do not have much knowledge.

Experienced hire here too. Myself and two other experienced hires on my team were targeted. I guess we're too old to be idoctrinated.

I have people on my team on PPTO that were not laid off. It’s not that you’re going on PPTO it’s that you’re an experienced hire

If you are an experienced-hire, you are a target! Many previous posts mentioned a majority in the group that got let-go being experienced-hires.

Experienced hire here, separated as well. I have too much of a financial commitment right now and it’s just bad timing to be laid off. XOM and the gods that be don’t look at our personal standing for sure. What I am saying is that all these are mere coincidences and we can’t change the decision. Time to move on.
