Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How long?

I’ve been here for 3 years and my coworkers know of my ambitions to further my career. They all say I need to be adaptable and to broaden my skill sets. But with the way things are going I am unsure of how long I will have at XOM (I've learned that nothing is certain here except for PIPs and layoffs). How many have actually made a career of O&G? I want to remain in the industry, but I’m not sure if it’s feasible. On a side note I am qualified to work in other industries.

Expand those XOM skill-sets and stay.
Easy one:
Get a nose-job, extended say 3 or 4 inches longer.
Go a replaceble carbon filter model.

I have been at EM for 15 years. Very few of the people I hired with are still here. I’ve seen many in their 50’s get PIPd. Good luck restarting again after 30+ years at EM. You must be young. Go to a company and industry that are growing. Little opportunity to advance in a shrinking company in a shrinking industry. Go where there is growth and opportunities. Every employee benefit is reduced since I joined the company. Vector is clear. EM is on its way to be PIPd.

"my coworkers know of my ambitions to further my career" HAHA

In XOM your co-workers are getting ranked against you and secretly hope you get PIPed.

OP - Based on what you wrote I think you will an excellent manager at ExxonMobil. Start by wearing Jos A. Bank sports jackets. Tie not necessary. Learn to frown and look stressed and worried in meetings and you might even replace DW someday. Your talent is bursting at its seams.

If you just started, why do you want to stay in a declining industry? Unless you’re hoping everyone else around is laid off so you have less competition?
