Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Uptight management

You would think after this place has been destroyed sales wise that the management would loosen up and allow bookseller's more autonomy in how we merchandise or in general set up our floors and tables But I have found since we have been back they have been more strict and more difficult than ever. It just k–ls whatever enthusiasm we had left for our store when we are not trusted to do anything other than follow guidelines and be as uninspired and safe as possible. For instance I got in trouble for facing out b&n leather bound books on the top row of our octagon table arranging them in a waterfall pyramid, beautiful leather bound books Now faced out where anyone who walks on the floor can immediately see them books that were otherwise buried and forgotten now became a problem because I happened to touch them and try something different with them. I know they are rules for setting up tables but I have seen this set up done on an octagon before in the kids department usually with young adult books and for the same reason their stylish covers looks good on a three row octagon table especially when faced out These tables are usually right in front of a department. But whatever i got sh– for it And it’s super annoying we have little support and despite being told to be more creative we are usually punished if we do anything remotely inspired. This post probably gives me away but I could care less at this point.

Yeah, 4 years is way too long to be working for this dying company. Unless you're looking for extra spending money or a c-appy part time job as a student- you need to find a real job. I would stick to with something essential.
Read what employees are saying on the other boards and check the job sites like Indeed.
Good luck.

It was not always like this, the store I work at used to better the staff tries hard but now things are changing and this place just isn’t fun anymore. I have been with them for four years.

Hello?? You are just a slave to the company. They do not care what you think or any ideas you have to offer. It's all usually directed by the Regional Managers and we all know what useless id–ts they are!

Either do whatever they say, no matter how stupid it is (and it usually is really stupid) or get out!
Funny, newbies usually learn this in week one. How long have you suffered with the company?
