Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

What was happening before you got axed?

At Allstate the atmosphere is tense and I think most of us feel that we are going to be axed. There are certainly some signs that point in that direction. I'm becoming very anxious. They treat me much differently than before, much worse. For those of you who got fired already, did you start noticing something that indicated their intentions to fire you and how long before it actually happened?

As with the previous poster i was always paranoid that I would be laid off. I never felt "safe". Its like the only place I know of where you can get a Distinguished Performance Award one year and the next year be placed on job in jeopardy... for doing the same job and having the same production or better.. it really is a mind f. But just before they announced that they were closing our offices they hired like 20 people in our office so although I never trusted the company to do the right thing by the employee, regardless of all the talk, we were kind surprised they let us all go. Right now though no one is safe and the layoffs will continue.. kind of glad I'm out of that place although being unemployed in this time is pretty nerve racking and worrisome. But hey f em. Adios mother f***ers!!

I’m always paranoid about getting laid off but this company has gone to the toilet this year. I barely talk to my manager, he’s more overworked than I am. When I do he’s super rushed. Sometimes a week or 2 will go by and I don’t talk to anyone on my team. There is no way to know if you’re going to get canned, just do your work while you are here and try to be prepared (resume updated, emergency fund saved) if it happens

Our area had no clue it was coming. In fact we were just approved days before for some additional system program accesses to help with a new duty recently added to our roles. Our managers, their leader, and our officer all got let go. None of them or us saw it coming and areas we work with thought we were one of the safest areas not to be laid off. Our area being eliminated was such a loss that to this day the areas we supported say they are still at a loss and at times a standstill without our support. Our entire area was completely blindsided from the top down.

There were no signs. My leader had no idea who would be laid off until they got the email with the names. Apparently they had no say in the decisions. Good employees were let go with no reason. The high stress could just be having a negative affect on your leader and it may not have anything to do with you.
