Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Good talent forced out , while......

It’s unfortunate that many of our well past retirement folks refused to leave which then forced many of our early to mid career employees to be sacrificed to hit the reduction targets.
Is there a mandatory retirement age ??

You seem to believe people are just cogs in the company machine - needing to be maintained.
Your view is worse than that of the management, because you are not management.

No retirement age - but there is defined 'leaving' age.
You there now.

The ones who have shiny new 2nd (or 3rd) wives typically from expat assignments (local content), go thru a stock split with wife #1 and now either refuse or can’t leave are the ones that pisses people off. I’ve seen this multiple times often with “senior” leadership. Oh I’m sure it’s real love with the fresh (and always younger) replacement wife lol

If you are 55+ and don’t have home and autos fully paid, you mismanaged finances.
If you are 55+ and are still supporting children, then you’ll be 80 and still doing so.
If you are 55+ and have a new spouse, you’ve made a big mistake somewhere, unless you are widow/ers, to whom I’d apologize.
If you are 55+ and keep working because it fulfills you, MOH has psychiatrists on their team.
No mandatory age, but if you are dragging on after you’ve exceeded the level of competency, just retire, please. You were once a young’un too and lots of older folks went in ‘86 at 52+ to save your career.

Nope, the NREs and REs are in the future attrition rate used in calculating the layoff head count. More future attrition less reduction today. A large batch of NREs would have gone if they could have been bridged to full retirement. Most wanted age years to get medical.

I'm NRE. Basically, stuck in the middle and not eligible for either program.
Since the end of Oct, I've listened to both sides and I will say the RE's are being sooooo damn insensitive versus those exposed to the involuntary program.
I'm shocked at the number of REs complaining that they only had 3 weeks to make a big decision.
Damn...you REs are so insensitive to the fact that the involuntary HAVE NO DAYS to make a decision. NO DECISION, no time, no options. You had a choice.
The REs don't seem to care that there are over 1,000 people who are not 100% vested, will have to pay gobs of money for insurance and btw...are unemployed just before Christmas in a a market that is saturated.
You are REs are just retired.

It just shocks me that the REs don't get that the involuntary folks do not have an option. No option!!!
No 20 days to decide if they want to stay.

Don't get me started that most REs are fully invested in their pension. People on the involuntary list don't have the same medical benefits or savings/Pension options.
I understand those at 55 or 56...but folks over 59 1/2 ...who decided to stay...really? Why? I don't
feel sorry for you when the folks left behind look at you and try to figure out why you stayed.

To all of you who got cut in the involuntary program, lots of us are shocked that you got cut and wish you
the best of luck.

THANK YOU retired in place dude. I’ve missed you watching fall asleep in every meeting since we are remotely.
I’ve particularly enjoyed how you never seem to be able to make Zoom work.
And it doesn’t bother me at all that five of my hard working and talented friends were kicked to the curb, because it gives me comfort that we have you.
Your wisdom, your experience, your invaluable ... ?? something that the managers seem to find comforting.
Cheers!
