Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Why lay someone off and than hire the same position?

Can anyone explain this to me:

Was making nearly 27 bucks an hour then out of nowhere & after 8 years, got riffed. Now I see they are hiring my SAME position for 18 bucks an hour.

I have heard that there are many such similar situations. What is this business policy? Probably looking for cheaper labor? I have no other explanation.

"You could literally make that working at Wal Mart in this area, Windstream is in really really bad shape."

Plus working at Walmart - their stock is light years higher than WINMQ (that's right, they were delisted and then went private. Nevermind)

Benefits at Walmart for those than can get them are better than WINMQ, AND Walmart won't be carved up anytime soon after emerging from Chapter 11.

A great majority of Walmart store positions can't suddenly be outsourced to India like WINMQ did with a few groups. How much money could they save if the LR5 was outsourced to India?

I was making $90k at windstream when they laid me off. Knew that entire network like the back of my hand. They posted my position for $37k, in a major US city hahaha. I talk to my previous co-workers weekly, we worked together for 15yrs and got close. That job was posted for 8 months and they did not get ONE person to interview, then they lost that head count and took the posting down. You could literally make that working at Wal Mart in this area, Windstream is in really really bad shape.

Because that’s what they do.

People were hired into different job functions pre merger or team realignments and it doesn't make sense to keep them on in the same capacity.

Their scope of work changes and so does the pay scale. The market the job is posted in also matters.

There are also consultants that were hires part of chapter 11. They were paid to make poor decisions and fire everyone on your team but one person. That is what happened to my team. They scrambled to call back or retain people but they have already moved on.

IPI will f— you over and not care about you. The director would always cuss us out. Talk how about much XO was better then WS and he still gets his bonus.

UH do the math. $27/hour vs $18/hour. It's called business strategy. Makes their numbers look good and when their numbers look good the employees are let go and the boys get their bonus. They are not as dumb as everyone thinks.
