Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Laid off than called back?

I’ve heard some laid off people got calls to come back again and work under different conditions. Someone on this forum also mentioned that they called him but to continue working with a significantly reduced salary and no benefits. I doubt I would accept the opportunity to regain my job. Is there anyone who did accept and why? I wonder under what circumstances should one accept the offer from their ex-employer who made such a mistake?

Yes, field and hourly get the shaft always around SLB. They give the so called engineers around 600-700 housing allowence even though they can't do any engineering. And they switch jobs every 2 or 3 years so they can keep allowence going. It is management system that doomed SLB. Just ask Liberty what they saw when they pulled back the curtain.

Mgmt is just trying to take advantage of the COVID situation. I was laid off. I got a call from a temp agency asking if I was interested in working for SLB again. I said yes and asked what was the offer. The offer was to do my same job for less than 1/2 the amount SLB said I was worth on my last Value Statement. No thanks to that - I declined the offer.

This has been posted about before. The future labor trend for o&g in the USA is to lean heavily on contractors and minimize permanent employees. I also see an overhaul across the industry in compensation components like tool or meal allowances, further cuts or elimination of job bonuses. There's already been some cuts in relocation packages. But it's safe to say that hourly and field workers will probably bear the brunt. Management and Executives will continue to do just fine.

I would take the job and then drop them as soon as you found something else better just like they did you.
