Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

They will lose everyone

I was both a manager and in the executive ranks with high performance reviews. I was axed yesterday. My downfall was my age I believe. I was probably one of the youngest in the exec ranks. I think there were too many untouchables (52+) in my grouping which forced them to go way up into the rankings. Got to ask yourself if you are a shareholder how keeping some of this dead weight (which will leave anyway in 3 years or less) to ax good performers to hit short term numbers is going to affect long term performance of the company. Couple this with the survivors being launched to the bottom of the treadmill rankings with additional workload, no raises, no 401k match. If oil goes up significantly next year, Katie bar the door, they will lose everyone. No sane individual will buy their “we are all about long term career here” (which some brave individual brought up during one of the executive teleconferences I was in).

OP, Shut up. You like to toot your own horn but we’re probably one of those tweak the PowerPoint boys who added zippo to the bottom line. Truth.

I feel for you, just as I feel for everyone that is being laid off... however, I am glad to hear that they are targeting execs / management. Frankly, if there are going to be cuts, the management / execs ranks need to slim down proportionally to the rest of the organization (or even more so) - regardless of age.

I agree. I was so disenfranchised by all of the constant B$ slogans I heard from upper management. They hire smart people, and smart people see through the crud. They'll stay for the paycheck as long as things seem stable, but all of the poor management, bad deals (XTO ha!), and backstabbing is going to send people elsewhere.

Nah. They won’t lose everyone. A lot of survivors will think the ones axed deserved it because they’re inferior. So the survivors must be superior and untouchable and will be showered with the money saved with the layoffs.

Yet another, "they'll never make it without me" post.

Have you considered that maybe it's you?

CEO publishes announcement saying our capital and focus is Permian and Guyana. Then they fire engineers from Permian and Guyana (very good ones), and we keep worthless team leads, coordinators, PhDs/URC and power point makers.

What was the response to the brave individual's question? This is valuable information for all the xom lifers that have never worked anywhere else (experienced hire here that never bought the xom lifetime story)

Cant have hard feelings. They are going through a lot and industry is taking a hard hit.
I was laid off but in the future if they give me an offer and their benefits are back to what they used to be (401K, pension still there) then I will definitely go back.
