Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

How do we know we are not next on the list?

Yes, this time the warn is specifically for Houston, but how certain are we that there won't be another announcement next week or the week after that? I just think that people who are breathing a sigh of relief are doing so prematurely. This is far from over.

If you have to ask if you’re on the list...you’re on the list.

The WARN act requires notification for 500 or more employees so, in Houston, the layoff is big. It doesn't mean that it's only Houston; it simply means that 499 or less will be laid off in other locations.

Next time someone is dispatched here to sing the praises of the AI and ML that will surely save us all could we please get someone literate to write the post?

MP has been pushing COP apply AI or machine learning with costs.without him, IT can’t smoothly transitioned after merging.so he is blessed to be kept.

MP has been protecting IT for the last four years. It is time for him to go... let him get on his scooter store ride and the cronies he has been protecting should go away.
IT has laid people off and then rehires young people in the next cycle. He needs to go away.
His IT is 1100 people, Concho has 64 people. Kinda makes you think hmmm...

The list is pretty much already set in stone for this upcoming round. That was finalized long before the WARN letter.

Going forward, we are good until at least Fall and likely Spring 2022. The decision for Fall will be made only if RL feels pressure from other companies that only he considers peers plan another round. Industry is now in a long term retrenchment mode. It's gonna take years to find its footing. And it's going to be a much, much smaller industry.

Could Champ be the only COP tenant in EC4 before he finally retires?

If you have a sponsor you have nothing to worry about, If you don't you are in trouble. No matter how great your co-workers say you are they are the same ones cutting your throat.
It is a dog eat dog world and being laid off is not as bad as you think.

I am guessing you have 90 days to really start trashing one another. Good Luck.

The WARN notice sent to the Houston/Texas is the battle cry for you to start trying to maintain your existence in this company.

It sounds like 600 of you wont have a job after Concho and COP combine.

I assume concho may wait until after sale gets approved to do midland warn, just in case an issue arises with approval. I suppose they will be next, if there are any changes in Bartlesville. It will probably happen during that phase. But l48 needs to fix cost regardless so they are not waiting for merger approval.

Other offices will be affected. Houston is just the biggest. Nobody is safe.
