Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

How is the job market?

So I’ve been thinking of leaving the company and was wondering if those who were impacted in the last round of layoffs were able to find work? Or is the market as bad as I gathered? How many of you found something outside of our industry? Did you have to relocate for a job?

Go and look. No harm in applying yourself and will be surprised hard yet worthwhile it can be to move on. SLB will either be there or drop you a d give you an hour to pack your bag.

Liberty Oil Field Services that just purchased SLB's One Stem - Frack–is hiring with all hands on deck.

All job markets are local. So start checking job postings in the location you want to be in, as well as the industry. I recommend exiting fossil fuels. And despite SLBs "New Energy" group, this company is a dinosaur that will grow that business as it always does, M&A as opposed to actually building a viable business from the ground up.

Job market is good out there, explore it! The problem is if you were a long time SLB employee and think it’s a strength, it is not! SLB has a very poor reputation in the industry and many of their employees are not viewed in high regard due to arrogance and complacency! Most working do not see it which is unfortunate as there is some great people within. Very weak HR group to say the least as they are nothing more than administrative personally thinking they are more and ‘Pepe le Pew’ has been the captain sinking the ship which you can’t blame covid for. If you have the chance to move on, move on as you will not regret it.

Do you speak Mandarin? Companies over here are hiring to replace overseas companies that appear to be going out of business.

About two weeks. And found a job with full medical benefits and better hours. They asked me to come back at almost half the pay and no benefits. Unless you are ready to retire and that’s why you are hanging on-otherwise you might wanna “diverse” and find something that you would like and wouldn’t keep looking for greener pastures.

It took me 6 months. Can’t just take anything. Of course i could have taken a job at a shell gas station like buddy above. Big salary drop. With your question you might have a future in stand up comedy: it’s tough out there man not sure why you are not aware of what’s going on !

I was laid off with the first round. It took me 2 1/2 months and I ended up switching industries and moving out of state. But, everything is soooo much better now. I make more money, I feel like I have job security, I've already been approached about a promotion, and I was included in this years annual cost of living increases.

Jobs are out there if you have ANY skill. I found a new job and am so much happier! SLB is a horrible company. FMPC is even worse than SLB corporate. Management there is as bad as I have ever seen. Quality and safety departments are a joke, manufacturing is not much better. People are leaving here in droves.

I was laid off when the first round happened. I did find a new job with a better company. It take awhile 5 months. But I am so much happier! Working at a company where their protected unqualified managers don’t exist.

It took 3 months to find a job. I landed a job in a good company with a better pay.
