One guy worked directly for his brother. Officially, on paper, he reported to a different manager.

HR doesn’t seem to care about spouses reporting to spouses.
We had an LL5 husband, LL6 reporting to him was wife. HR knew this before the LL5 shuffle that placed the LL5 in the position. The LL6 (wife) was a real piece of work, manipulative evil pot stirrer. She got another LL6 fired (false allegations whispered to her husband), and in general threatened everyone on the team that if they did not kiss up to her, she would get them fired as well.
Two LL6 went to HR and complained. HR solution was to have a different LL5 do the wife’s performance review. So yeah that was three years of a super fun time (not).
HR does not give a hoot about employees.

There were secret marriages between management role employees. The female would not change the maiden name in the workplace. It was funny, one all hands meeting the chief was up there and they were going through anniversaries and read her married name. She stood up and spit fire that was not her name (awkward was putting it mildly in a forum of 700 people). The guy she was with was an LL5. She climbed the ladder in about 5 years went from GSR to LL4. Interestingly she and her husband are in the same area now, I think he is an LL4 now as well. I am surprised HR would allow that, but hey plenty of threads on here about how worthless HR is, so not surprised.

Two examples in my neighborhood - maybe coincidence??

  • Recently prompted LL5 - his director lives across the street
  • LL6 - her manager lives 5 houses away
  • you decide.

The problem with the Ford family nepotism is that the family members in the company are all important decision makers to varying degrees. WCF is the biggest and most obvious example. I think his record speaks for itself. EF has been discussed in detail here. I'll only add that she has one of the most critical posts for the short and long term success for any automaker. Good customer interactions are absolutely critical for any automaker to have success and it is frankly terrifying that someone so out of touch with reality is in charge of understanding the average Ford buyer. HFIII is responsible for communicating with large institutional investors who have the most influence on our stock price. He has exactly zero qualifications for that job. And finally we have WCF's daughter who sits on the company's board seat of our most critically important strategic partner Rivian. What qualifies her to analyze advanced battery cell development? She worked at the Gap.

The nepotism within the Ford family is a drop in the bucket.

Look around each department and you will find a large percentage of the staff is on the friends and family plan.

Our LL5 first got her husband into Ford as a contractor, then hired in as GSR, then promoted to LL6. all within 4 years. As return favors to the LL5 who hired and promoted her husband, she hired and promoted a son and a daughter of LL5s (both are incompetent).
At the LL6 ranks we have a mistress of another LL5, a mistress of an LL6 (again both incompetent); wife of an LL4 (incompetent); wife of LL6 (incompetent).
At the GSR ranks we have nine children of LL* (only one who is competent), eight “close” friends of LL* (none are competent).

The problem is corrupt people follow the example set for them at the top leadership levels.
Roughly a third of our department staff only contribution is currying favors with other Ford leadership.

Elena Ford is a joke and should be fired. She was arrested for drunk driving with her kids in the car - bad judgement. How can she be trusted to have good judgement and make good decisions for the company? She can’t. She probably comes to work hung over. What a bunch of c-ap. https://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2011/04/ford-heiress-auto-exec-elena-ford-facing-charges/

Having worked with Elena Ford I wholeheartedly agree that's a perfect example

At the risk of leading off with the obvious, let me nominate Elena Ford as the poster child for nepotism at the Ford Motor Company. If she weren't the granddaughter of Henry Ford II, it's doubtful that she would have been hired at Ford, let alone risen to her current post as Chief Customer Experience Officer.
