Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

SLB needs leaders not bureaucrats

If you observe how SLB managers spend their time you will see a person who isolates themselve in an office typing on a computer all day. Do they ever walk around the office and talk to the people under them to know how things are going? Not in my experience.
What the hell are they doing? Maybe making slides for other bureacrats.

SLB needs leaders not bureaucrats. Leaders earn their reputations and positions by achievements. The company would be well served to get rid of the bureaucrats who clog the system and are a drain on revenue. Replace them with teams led by leaders who have earned their stripes.

Perfectly stated, @6kjh+184QmyiD. Bumped so more people could see it.

Are you just going to whine and moan the rest of your working life? If you don't like it, get out, there are other places to work, some better, some worse. Or, you can start your own business, then the lazy people you employ can go to sites like this and write anonymous posts detailing how horrible it is work at your company.

Number 1 skill needed at SLB is creation ofppt slides.

Number 2 skill needed at SLB is to hit "Accept" on meeting requests. Then go bacj to skill #1 to prepare your slides for said meeting.

Skill #3 is preparing slides for your manager's meetings

Skill #4 is making restaurant/strip club recommendations to visitors.

No other skills needed.

As one of “the acquired”, it was strange to see all managers with their office doors closed. Is that a French thing?

Hey they spend lot of time touching and smooching. This is a serious job. Who doesn’t like this lifestyle. Free money, retirement, variety of girls.

If center manger says - I want somebody to
Smooch tonight. That says it all.

We all know the leeches, yes great to name and shame them but call them out internally with facts and hold account. Fix their mess produce the results - would be nice.

Or let them carry on, a leech knows she/ he is a leech. I am not a rat in a rat race, they are.

Deep breath and move on.

Generally the worst rise to the top, will never change if you promote based on how much you screwed over a segment or PL or business to obtain short term results.

Keep them for a minimum of 5 or 7 years in a role or geography to actually have a long term plan which will work.

Hello, I agree.

Central teams or HQ or Region with no buy in or accountable supposed to coordinate the path ahead.....leads to b—s— mid-aligned teams.

At the same time both driven by annual objectives, fake results that do not systemically or sustain improvement.
