Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I hate surprises!

I would rather know now instead of waiting for a 1:1 invite to pop up on my calendar. The fact that my sup doesn’t know anything just increases the anxiety. They should have just told us a week before instead of playing the wait and let’s see game.

I really like this company and saw myself staying until I retire. If I make it through I think I might leave anyway. It’s better to just pull the band-aid off quick than suffer through a slow painful removal.

Don't worry:
Sleep well as the chances are that you will not be laid off this time. There will be a plenty of time to get selected and be fired during one of the futures ones.

@hyx a bunch of new hires were PIPed this summer. I don't know if it was 20% but it was certainly very high. Especially since new hires are not supposed to be eligible for ranking.

Go pound sand. 8% were blindsided and then 20% of new hires as well. Sorry but to quote EM you should show some empathy!

What if you had been PIP’d how would you have felt? I was and survived and hope to survive this one too but at least this time I know it’s coming.

Greed among employees is doing the talking. Next month it will be business as usual of display of greed and sukin up for those who survived this round of layoff.

You are a human resource.
They got oils and gases to deal with. Real resources.

For the person worrying about hiring slowing in December, I've seen multiple influential recruiters + career coach on linkedin debunked this myth, hiring will only speed up since it's the last month of the year and companies need to meet their hiring target, just like cops you know.

Finding out on Dec 1st is no different than finding out on Dec 15th. Yeah you get an extra two weeks, but you still have 60 days of regular pay then your vacation and severance. So you don’t have to find another job until late January or February. I just want to know now so I can start planning my future.

As for the person who said we should be blindsided like he was in July. You’re just a schmuck who deserved what you got.

In a strange twist, if you can convince your supervisor to wait until December 15th your last day on payroll will be February 15th. If you find out on December 1st your last day on payroll will be February 1st. I'd rather have the extra two weeks of pay myself as I doubt there is a lot of hiring activity going on in December with the holidays and everyone out on vacation.

No, you should get the same blindsided kick in the gut I and the others got back in July. You want your mommy to come hold your hand?

Zip up your man suit and face reality head on!

Agreed. Simple automated email would have made it all easier.
I really don’t care much for their fake empathy.
The sooner I know the better would have been.

I agree. I thought I was going to be able to chill over the weekend because it's not rational to worry about it when it's out of your control, but I'm checking my work email every 10 minutes just in case. Whenever it finally arrives, then I'm going to analyze what day I'm scheduled for and try and figure out if its more likely I'm cut or survived.

I guess they didn't want to spoil the Thanksgiving of the effected, but damnnnnn they gave the paltry number in the voluntary crowd forever to make up their minds with next to no incentive, took another ten days to finalize that list, and then we're going to get chopped the day after? It would have been better if they gave the voluntary crowd two full weeks, already understood the people from the voluntary population who they wouldn't let go so that the volunteers could be told immediately if they could go, then tell us the week after that, Thanksgiving be damned. That's how I'd prefer it was done, at least. I guess we at least get a little extra time employed with this delay of sorts.
