Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Laying off Buildings not people

I was listening to a team talk the other day and it really hit home that there are other strategies in place in all organisations (including Dell) to keep "producing assets" (People) and remove non producing costs.

Right now, that's buildings. Huge, monolithic costly buildings are being laid off with no redundancy all over the world. You dont need them, they cost money and they dont produce real revenue return.

Laying off some of the huge campus sites and turning them into briefing centres. Everyone works from mobile or home (or in my case Im onsite anyway). Save millions a year. In the areas where we have sometimes 3-8 Buildings in a state, lay em off. Save millions.

It's no secret that our results last year were quite good, not from increase in sales but reduction of costs. We've proven we can work agile and this saves a bucket of money for the company. What else can we layoff before we get to people? Think about it.

I have worked from home for mor than 10 years. As far as I know there are not any immediate plans to bring the majority of workers back to The Buildings. I think they know work from home works. Why revert?

I have worked remote for over a decade. That being said working remote is easier when you can travel. I will be glad for the day we can travel again.

Laying off buildings right now is called incurring a capital loss.
